Pros: Flavor Variety, Speed, My K-cup
Cons: Cost, sensor issues on water reservoir, 2 Kcups to travel mug Customer Service
What I have to say won't be significantly different than other reviews. But hopefully will help someone on the edge...
The Keurig is not about the best coffee. It's about the best coffee in small quantity. That sounds funny so let me explain... The Senseo, Tassimo, Keurig are all about coffee fast and convenient. Each varies on which is emphasized.
My Coffee History:
I had a very good Cuisinart with built in grinder. Brewed a very good cup of coffee. But it was kinda a pain to brew. Fill it up, drop in the beans, clean the filter (gold) and then brew. Wait 10 minutes and whoa! Great coffee. And using your own beans is the best!
Then I went to Senseo cause we wasted alot of coffee. See we wanted coffee at night or quickly in the AM but it was usually 1 cup or 2. Thus 6 cups go to waste. The senseo just never had good coffee. It was convenient but not all that good.
Then I found Keurig. I really like Keurig! Many flavors of coffee prepackaged. Green Mountain seems to be the best. and the fact that it is usually very fast is a major boon to us. Plus we have 1 or 2 cups with no waste. Finally the My K-cup I can have the coffee beans I used to use in the Kcup if I want to spend the time!
This is where the Keurig disappoints. The hardware is great when it works and I've not had a real coffee issue... but the water reservoir sensor won't trip to indicate that there is water back in the reservoir every so often... This means that you CAN'T BREW! Ack! It only happens if the reservoir goes empty and the sensor sticks... This brings me to my next point.
This was actually a major surprise... First time it happened it was 8 PM PST on a Friday I figured oh noway anybody is there but I called anyhow...
"Hello this is Matt!"
I almost dropped the phone. One menu and a live person in less than 2 minutes. He informed me that this is a known issue and there's no "real" answer. It will just sorta work or not.. ?We turned the machine upside down and emptied then refilled the water reservoir and it was fixed (seriously). That was it and I brewed away for a few more days... Then it occurred again this time that didn't work but turning it off for a few minutes did! There is an issue here and I think I'm gonna get another brewer to verify it's not a fluke. But they knew about this issue (weren't surprised) so I guess this is a quality issue.
I really like this thing for it's easy brew. Good coffee and for tea (when sick). It's definitely better than Senseo.
If you already know how to make good coffee and don't mind doing it every night (for either morning or evening).
If you drink a whole pot yourself or have a house full of drinkers.
If you don't want another "system".
Keurig or any other pod/cup/disk is not for you.
If you want coffee now.
If you want a variety of coffee's without a freezer full of beans.
If you drink 1-2 cups at a time.
If you want to offer options to your guests.
Then I would say the Keurig is worth your attention. It does all 4 better than any other "system" out there. It probably won't replace your coffee pot... But it could allow you to store it for special occasions.
*UPDATE 1 12/22/2006*
I contacted Kuerig and spoke to customer service. They couldn't help me that night but offered to call me back tomorrow. They did attempt to contact me but I missed the call and they left me a message. However, they also emailed me with a case number and gave me the phone number in writing.
After a series of 3 quick emails with "Rena" she suggested they send me a new water reservoir. I confirmed my address and she said they'd ship it.
We'll see when it gets here...
* UPDATE 2 2/9/2007
So much for excellent service. They failed to follow through with the new water reservoir. I really don't like the idea that they are putting on a good show. (We figured that we just can never let the reservoir empty.) Tonight the thing made a HORRIBLE grumbling noise and stopped brewing. Despite the scale sensor we decided to de-scale. No luck. Now it at least works but very loud. I think we may be in for warranty issues after only 3 months that doesn't bode well.
