| mike_perrotto's Full Review: Keurig Ultra B50 1-Cup Coffee Maker |
My Wife and I are coffee enthusiasts and have tried just about every coffee maker type on the market. Before purchasing the Keurig B50 system, the only coffee maker type that satisfied our coffee tastes/needs was the drip type coffee maker. The problem with a drip coffee maker is the daily mess setting it up for our morning coffee (e.g., water and coffee grinds all over the counter) and the cleanup (e.g., dripping coffee basket, leftover coffee in the carafe). Non-the-less, it did satisfy our needs over the years. When the Pod makers came out, we tried several models, however the coffee tasted like instant coffee, the water reservoir was too small (always filling), and the biggest problem, it made too small cup of coffee. I like a large mug of coffee in the morning and drinking a petite (shot glass) 5oz cup of coffee didnt work for me. Bottom line, it was back to the store with those type units and back to the drip coffee maker. While shopping at a local store (Linens and Things) with a 20% off coupon for anything in the store, my wife and I spotted the Keurig B50 Coffee Maker. It was priced at $139.00, slightly costly in my mind, however we decided to try the machine. With the 20% off coupon, the net cost would be just over 100 dollars a reasonable price for this quality machine. We purchased the machine and several boxes of coffee K cups. The first thing you notice when you unpack the machine is the quality of the design and the overall unit theres no doubt, its a well made, great looking machine. The water reservoir is on the side and large enough to last through one mornings coffee. As someone mentioned, you can remove the reservoir and fill it at the sink, or just remove the lid and fill it from a pitcher of water. Filling it with filtered water from a (Brita type water filter pitcher) works well for us. After following the well written instructions, the unit was primed and ready to go. One simply inserts a K Coffee cup/cartridge into the unit, presses the small or large coffee button and out comes steaming hot coffee. The coffee is brewed in a few seconds. The coffee has a pleasant taste and we are still deciding which coffee blend we like the best were leaning towards the French Vanilla type. The only drawback I see with this unit is the size of the coffee unit dispensed. Even though we use the large size setting, I literally make three cups of coffee in the morning to satisfy my coffee need. Theres no doubt its quality coffee, however, if you are accustomed to pouring and drinking a large mug of coffee in the morning, you can still achieve this, however youll go back to the machine about two or three times. Despite this, we will keep the unit and Im accepting the smaller sized cups of coffee.
