Pros:Easy to use, fast, practical, 45 ounce reservoir, lots of flavors, stylish, durable.
Cons:Perhaps a little bit big, temperature may not be hot enough for some people.
The Bottom Line: The Keurig 45 Elite Brewing System is easy to use and it seems durable. You quickly get a cup of something after you select one of the many flavors.
You are running out the door to get to work on time and on your way out your personal coffee wench hands you your morning coffee. Well, the Keurig coffee maker is almost as sweet and a lot cheaper than a personal coffee wench would be. It takes less than 30 seconds to get your coffee ready and all you need to do is press a button. On top of that you have dozens of flavors to choose from. Yeah our Keurig brewing system that we’ve had for about a year is a blessing.

When the Keurig K45 Elite Brewing System is off, it takes about one minute for it to heat up. You just press the power button to get the heating started. Once it is ready (indicated by an LED) all you do is place a K-cup in the K-cup receiver, close it, and then you press one of the three brew buttons (different cup sizes). You’ll have a cup of coffee, or tea, or hot chocolate, or hot cider in less than 30 seconds. It is a very convenient system and Keurig offer more 200 flavors.
The Keurig K45 Elite Brewing System features a 48 ounce water reservoir, it has three cup sizes (and three buttons) 6 oz., 8 oz., and 10 oz. It has automatic shut off in case you forget to turn it off, and it has an internal water filter and an internal charcoal filter. However, we pour already filtered water into it. It weighs 12 pounds without the water, and the dimensions are 13.0 X 9.8 X 13.3 inches.
You should clean and de-scale the brewer system once in a while. Two times a year is recommended. You clean by removing the K-cup assembly, clean the funnel and the exit needle, and put then put it all back. De-scaling means that you run a brew-round (48 ounce) using vinegar instead of water (no K-cup of course) and then another brew-round using water (rinse phase). Then let it stand for four hours while on (turn the auto shut-off off first). These are not time consuming or difficult tasks but one extra chore that you should do if you want your Keurig K45 Elite Brewing System to last long and you may want to know that you need to do it before you purchase one. However, overall the Keurig K45 Elite Brewing System is very easy to use and easy to clean.
One of the great advantages of using a Keurig Brewing System is the fact that there are so many flavors and they are so easy to find. You can always buy on-line but our local super market has close to 50 different flavors (out of 200). Some our favorites are Timothy’s French Vanilla, Timothy’s Hazelnut Coffee, Green Mountain Hot Apple Cider, Colombian Fair Trade Select Coffee, Tully’s French Roast Extra Bold Coffee, Tully’s House Blend Extra Bold Coffee, Dunkin Donuts Original Blend Coffee, and Dunkin Donuts Dunkin’ Dark Roast Coffee. We also like some of Newman’s flavors.
Another great advantage of using a Keurig Brewing System is that you don’t need to measure any water. You just pour water every now and then so it isn’t empty. It certainly helps that the Keurig K45 Elite Brewing System has a 45 ounce reservoir. There is also no programming, just three easy buttons to press. The buttons are raised and lit, which makes it easy to use the brewer even when you have the lights off. This system is certainly easy to use.
Some of the less flavorful K-cups may end up tasting “watery”. However, American coffee tends to be watery to begin with and by using the more flavorful K-cups you get a good taste. The water may not get hot enough for some people. Personally I don’t want my coffee too hot because it is takes longer to drink and it could also be a safety hazard. For me the temperature is just about right. However, the fact that you can’t set the temperature may be a negative to some people.
We’ve had this brewing system for less than a year but we know people who’ve had this model for several years without it causing any issues. Therefore I believe the Keurig K45 Elite Brewing System is durable. To avoid issues you need to remember to clean and de-scale.
The Keurig K45 Elite Brewing System also looks nice in the kitchen. It is stylish. However, one slight negative is that I think it is a little bit too big considering that the reservoir is 45 ounce. It looks like it would hold a 90 ounce reservoir. It is also a lot pricier than, for example, a regular coffee brewer.
In summary, I think the Keurig K45 Elite Brewing System is easy to use, practical, and it seems durable. It is fast and offers a lot of flavors, which is pretty nice. We use it all the time and we are happy with it. I highly recommend the Keurig K45 Elite Brewing System.
Finally I would like thank Larry (gamblingman) lead in home & garden for adding this item to the epinions data base.
