Pros: Lower in fat than other dry dog foods
Cons: It's not compatable with all dogs.
The Bottom Line: If your dog can no longer cross the room under his/her own power and kids confuse him/her for a beachball this may be the dog food for you!

| mrxxx's Full Review: Kibbles and Bits Lean Dog Food |
What do you do when one of your precous pets gets a little overweight? I guess two answers are 1: Increase the amount of exercise he/she gets 2: feed him/her a lower fat dog food. choice no.1 is fairly easy to accomplish but choice two ???
It is up to you to decide if your dog is overweight or not. the way I go about deciding if he/she is overweight is I look for certain signs. Like when the dog is no longer able to fit through the doggee door thats one sign. Another sign is when the dogs belly reaches the floor. Still another is when the neighborhood kids keep mistaking the dog for a beach ball.
No my dogs are not so fat that they are confused for beachballs but they are a little chubby. So I am now on a journey to find a diet dog food that they will eat. In my search I have come across Kibbles and Bits Lean Dry Dog Food. I looked on the bag to see how much fat was in this lean dog food.
Here is the specs for fat, protien, etc...
CRUDE PROTIEN: 21.0%
CRUDE FAT: 5.0%-9.0%
CRUDE FIBER: 4.0%
MOISTURE: 18.0%
Hmmmm 18% moisture... Thats not too dry and it shows. The pieces of dog food feel slightly greasy. As for fat hmmmm...5.0-9.0%? to me thats kind of is a little too much variation. How do I figure out how much fat is in this bag compaired to other bags of the same dog food?
Ok with questionable details on the amout of fat, etc I went and bought one bag of the stuff. even at 9% fat its still less fat than what I was feeding them before.
My dogs are picky eaters so I expected the usual sniff and sour face as the dogs left the kitchen to find someone er something to eat. To my surprise one actually ate a few bites of the stuff.
As far as I know Kibbles and bits does not cause any stomach upsets in my two dogs. however it may not be right for you. My neighbors tried the same stuff with their four year old Shetland sheepdog. It made her sick!
