| wangofree's Full Review: Kibbles and Bits Original Dog Food |
The ironic thing about pet food is that it must please two consumers. The initial 2 legged purchaser, and then the 4 legged one. For most people, KnB has a pleasing look to it, an inviting aroma, and feeds well. It's primarily a 4 component product, a yellow strand, white chicken piece, 2 color round kibbles and 2 color bone piece.
As with most pet food, the soft pieces are basically the same, differing only in shape and color. The hard pieces likewise follow this pattern. (Cereal makers do the same, making 3 or 4 different shapes and colors out of one type of drymix or formula). This is good news for pet owners. If an animal favors one piece over the other, they are still guaranteed that they will receive a 100% balanced diet.
Kibbles 'n Bits original formula provides nutrition and "fun" for our animals. It is formulated as a "special treat" type product, but is suitable for everyday use. We feed it year round with good results. There are cheaper brands, and more expensive ones, but KnB is good value for the cost per feeding, and our dogs love it!
The only drawback is if a person is concerned with feeding an animal artificial color and Propylene Glycol. This product contains Yellow 5, Yellow 6, Red 40, and Titanium Dioxide. These 4 colors give the product it's "fun" look, and may offend some pet owners.
Proplylene Glycol is likewise part of Kibbles 'n Bits formula. This additive is common in many food and industrial uses, and has been linked to certain disease conditions in Cats, but so far, I don't think the Federal Govt. has forced pet manufacturers from refraining from using it as a preservative for dog food. It would be wise though to keep your cat away from this product.
The Quaker Oats Company originally owned this brand. Heinz Pet Products now manufactures Kibbles 'n Bits, and it continues to feed well with our animals. They seem to thrive on it, and hopefully yours will too if you try it.
Update 4/6/06
Kibbles 'n Bits is now owned by the Del Monte Pet Products Company, and continues to produce this original product. The Kibbles 'n Bits line has been expanded to include new products like Homestyle Beef, Homestyle Chicken, and Balance Bites. All of our animals continue to thrive on this great product. We are very happy with the price and the feeling that we are not only providing 100% nutrition, but FUN for our pooches. Thanks to all consumers who recognize a Very Helpful review.
