Wow! Was my first thought after hearing these amazing speakers. They may seemed a bit expensive, but they produce CRYSTAL clear music.
I have these hooked up with a Kicker ZX 250.2 amplifier, and they are a perfect match. I can crank these things so loud that you have to listen to them outside of the car, and they still don't produce any distortion. I haven't pushed them to their point of distortion, but it must be way beyond any point of comfortable listening levels. My head unit is an Alpine 9886 receiver.
Personally, I am more interested in sound quality than loudness, but these speakers excel in both areas. My only suggestion to buyers of these speakers is not to go cheap on the amplifier you will use to power these, or the sound quality will be reduced. From my experience these speakers are meant for solid, clean power. With an RMS power rating of 100 watts, these speakers really produce.
Amplifier - A Must
If you don't plan on purchasing an amplifier to pair with your new speakers, then I would suggest that you look into the Kicker DS or KS Series, because they don't require as much power to perform. These RS series will sound better than the DS/KS when paired with an amp, however, you won't notice much of a difference than the DS/KS if they are being powered by your head unit.
Absolutely. The moment you pick these things up you can feel their durability. They have a very solid, heavy magnet in the back, which is protected by a very thick, tough, rubber mold. The wire inserts seemed also much stronger than ones on previous speakers I have owned. My only complaint is that the grills that are included pop off fairly easily if you bump them from the side. They are strong however, and protect well from a possible frontal impact to the cone.
A side note...
I also have listened to the Kicker Series SS component speakers (one level above the RS) and for the money, I don't think they are worth it. They have the same RMS ratings, and the only difference I noticed was that the SS components' tweeters were a bit brighter. They seemed a bit overpowering to me.
My only other suggestion is to check for these on eBay, because you can find these for well below $200. Overall, I would give these 6 out of 5 stars.
