Pros:fun accessories (phone, keys, and compact)
Cons:plastic purse, cardboard license and credit card
The Bottom Line: Barbie needs better taste in bags
My daughter is a riot. From about the time she went from crawling to vertical she figured out real quick what she likes best. That would be shoes and purses. One of my friends (who has all boys) gave her this Barbie Fun on the Go Purse Set for her 2nd birthday thinking it would be right up her alley.. and indeed it is.
What you get
From Kid Designs this Barbie Fun on the Go Purse includes the following:
Plastic purse
Talking Cell Phone
Keys with Electronic clicker
Sunglasses
Makeup Compact
Credit Card
Drivers License
The overall theme for this set is Barbie, or "Bobbie" as my daughter calls her. Our bag is white plastic (vinyl?) with pink flowers on it and all the rest of the accessories are nauseating shades of Barbie pink and Barbie purple.
What my daughter thinks
My daughter loves purses but even at 2 years old she can tell a good purse from a not so good purse. This handbag is small (about 6X6), made of plastic and looks "fake". She wants the real deal so the first thing she did was take all the accessories and load them into a slightly larger pale pink purse that was once mine but had been somehow made its way into her dress-up trunk. Perfect!
Now, whenever my daughter goes out she brings her purse with her. She loves the fake cell phone which even has pretend camera functions and multiple ring tones. Personally I find the Barbie sayings a bit annoying but my 2 year old enjoys chatting it up with "Bobbie" and pretending to be on the phone (especially when she sees me talking on my phone, also pink).
She loves to get out her pretend keys when she sees me get my keys and carries them around proudly. The remote control makes chirping sounds that are similar to car alarm chirps.
The compact is supposed to play music when its flipped open but ours doesn't (any longer?). I don't really recall if it ever did play music, it doesn't now - but my daughter still plays with it constantly. She was always taking my pressed powder compact so this keeps her away from mine.
Barbie's pink sunglasses are a riot. If I could pull off wearing hot pink sunglasses with faux rhinestone accents, I'd wear them too. Quality wise they aren't stellar, and I'm surprised my daughter hasn't broken them yet considering how much she wears them (upside down or right side up, even).
Barbie's credit card and driver's license are made of a plastic coated cardboard. My daughter doesn't show much interest in these other than insisting that they stay in her purse so she can carry them around. The only reason why they haven't been destroyed or lost is because they stay in the bag and don't get played with.
Overall
The Barbie Fun on the Go purse set is indeed fun for my little girl. She knows who Barbie is but I'm certain she'd play with this set with or without the Barbie styling. I think the retail price of $20 for this set is definitely too much for what you get (a bunch of plastic accessories that run on button cells in a plastic purse). Likewise, the age recommendation on this is 3 and up to which I give a big eyeroll. My daughter at 2, enjoys this. I can safely bet that a 3 year old would probably enjoy this too. Older than that.. all bets are off. My guess is that they'd find the set "below them". Not to mention, that the glasses probably would be ridiculously small considering they fit my tiny 2 year old perfectly. My daughter clearly enjoys Barbie's personal belongings except for the purse itself which leaves a bit to be desired.
