Several months ago I picked up the bottle of Kids Chloraseptic® Sore Throat grape liquid because the packaging stated it is alcohol free, aspirin and ibuprofen free. Another plus for this product was it could be used for nighttime and Doctor Recommended, although it states to only last four hours.
This is a new product that works as a pain reliever and fever reducer. We have utilized this only for the sore throat relief and it is not pleasant to get one teaspoon down the hatch. For $3.99 at Big Lots I figured it was worth trying since I can never find a decent sore throat product for children. My son was not thrilled with the Triaminic Chews Cough & Sore Throat, does like wearing the Triaminic Vapor Patch, but that is not enough to help when the sore throat hits.
He was also taking the Children’s Benadryl Allergy Fasmelt, refused the Nice cherry lozenge, preferring to such on the Cold Relief Pops. Long ago I had purchased a bottle of Tylenol Sore Throat, but quickly learned this is for children over the age of twelve, so this is the sore throat liquid medicine I consume when symptoms arise.
The first thing to note that is different with this Kids Chloraseptic® Sore Throat grape liquid is that you need to shake the container before every use. I have never come across a similar product with this recommendation. This does contain 160 mg of acetaminophen, with a limit of five doses in a twenty-four hour period. The dosing chart goes from age 3-12 with the doses going from one teaspoonful to 2-3 teaspoons. I have endured twice taking two teaspoons at separate times with my son balking at one teaspoon.
This does come with a plastic cup with the doses labeled for using, but we prefer using a plastic spoon the times we have succumbed to the Kids Chloraseptic® Sore Throat grape liquid. The consistency/texture is very different from other liquid medicines. It has a gel substance to it and seems sticky when you get it on your fingers.
The taste is pure displeasure, reminding me of medicines I took as a child in the 1960s and the after taste lingers for awhile. My son tried this once and will not try it again. I have tried on occasion the Cepacol Sore Throat Spray, but my son is not interested in taking medicine via this format. This does work effectively for the short amount of time it covers, but I want medicine to last longer without having to endure another round of swallowing and crying.
Kids Chloraseptic® Sore Throat grape liquid is marketed for sore throat, colds, flu, headaches and to reduce fever. This should not be taken for more than two days if the sore throat becomes severe or persistent. Those who are pregnant and breast-feeding need to seek medical guidance before taking. If new symptoms arise or the pain worsens, swelling or redness occurs than you need to discontinue use.
No other products can be used that contain acetaminophen while taking Kids Chloraseptic® Sore Throat grape liquid. The inactive ingredients include dyes, glyverin, high fructose corn syrup, purified water, benzoate, sorbitol solution, propylene glycol and xanthan gum. There is an expiration date on the bottom of the box as well as on the side of the label. Luckily for my household we can toss this in June when it expires. The bottle has a press down and twist cap and needs to be stored at room temperature.
If you can handle the taste going down as well as the after taste and only want relief for a few hours then this is something to consider. It all depends on your needs and what the children like. The price was decent and I took another dose this afternoon and feel relief from a bothersome sore throat. I always check the ingredients on other products when my children have coughs, runny noses and sore throats to make sure they all can be given together.
