| Sharee5800's Full Review: Kids Ii Soft & Safe Inflatable Baby Bath Tub |
Bath time is always fun time for the little ones once they learn that splashing mom or dad gets a great reaction. "Aaaaahhh you wet me!" always makes my 6 month old giggle.
I learned about a month ago that my infant bath tub wasn't really useful anymore. With my baby sitting on his own, in the slanted infant seat, bath time became more a chore than anything. He isn't the tiny little baby that he once was who was willing to lie in the bath tub and let mommy wash him. He thinks he is a big boy now so he needs to sit up. It isn't possible for him to sit in the infant tub without falling over because it is slanted and designed for babies to lie down in.
I knew we had to find some other means of bathing him. I searched Epinions, of course first. I noticed that there weren't many bathing seats that had 4 or 5 stars. I read over a few reviews on the inflatable tubs. They seemed to be a more reliable product for babies in the same age range of my little one.
I took my monthly visit back to Wal-mart. We had to pick up the usual baby necessities. This includes the wipes, diapers, bath wash, and all the other great things that parents with little ones need. We were in fact going to purchase a new tub or seat. As I searched over the baby seats, they were the same ones shown on Epinions with low consumer ratings. I noticed things that were told in the reviews to be true. The major problem was being unable to wash the baby thoroughly due to the way the seat is made. There were only 3 seats and one inflatable tub. The tub had to be the better option.
I knew that my son was able to sit up on his own and preferred to sit alone. The Kids II Soft & Safe Baby Bath Tub was going to be perfect. I would be able to bath my baby easily without having to reach around the seat bars.
I would like to say first off that this tub is for babies 6-24 months. Many reviews I have read, clearly state that the manufacturer says this Kids II Soft & Safe Baby Bath Tub can be used for newborn babies up until 24 months. This is not true. It clearly states on the box that this tub should be used for babies 6 months or older. There is also a caption that says that this tub should be used only for babies who are able to sit upright unassisted. This will vary from baby to baby.
Kids II Soft & Safe Baby Bath Tub is 27" x17" when inflated. On the box there is a small picture of a baby that says, "Makes bathing easier." I certainly have to agree with this.
When you open the box you simple pull the tub out and inflate it with either your lungs or a pump. It took Daddy less than 5 minutes to inflate the outerside and the bottom piece of the tub. You shouldn't use a high pressure pump to inflate this tub. Likewise with any inflatable devise, you shouldn't ever over inflate.
~~~~Great Features~~~~
Strong and Durable Material
Kids II Soft & Safe Baby Bath Tub is made of an extremely durable material. It is much like the material of a water bed mattress. It seems to be even thicker than my matress. It isn't the thin, easily tearing material that many flotation devices are made of. There is no need to worry about it ripping. With 6 dogs who like to jump in the bath tub when we aren't looking, this is important to me. Those claws are more than sharp!
The material is decorated with brightly colored water animals and creatures. There are smiling frogs, ducks, fish and seals. What baby doesn't like fish and ducks in the tub with them?
Water Release Valve
I noticed that this wasn't mentioned in the other reviews and I find it extremely important. It would be very hard to try and lift this bath tub full of water to empty it. The water release is just a small hole in the bottom with a plug. When the plug is pulled, the water flows out. The plug is nondetachable, so the baby can't choke. It is also clear, bringing less attention to it. As we all know, babies like to grab anything that can be grabbed.
Soft inflatable Sides and Bottom
Wet babies are slippery babies. If they do happen to slip, the sides are soft. No bruises on my baby's head! What a wonderful concept. The bottom is inflatable also with grooves. This makes an excellent seat for the little tushes and helps to prevent slipping.
A Perfect Fit!
I have a standard size bath tub. The Kids II Soft & Safe Baby Bath Tub fits just perfectly with about 6 inches of room remaining in the big bath tub. I am able to put the baby wash and wash cloth on the side of the tub without my little one being able to grab it. The sides on the Kids II Soft & Safe Baby Bath Tub are high enough that unless my baby gets on his hands and knees, he can't reach over.
Great for Traveling
We have been on many trips with our baby. Bath time is always a 2 person job. My husband will have to hold our baby as I kneel in the tub with him and bathe him. No more worry! We can deflate this tub, pack it in the suit case, and be ready for bath time! How wonderful.
~Do I have any gripes?~
Nothing is perfect and I am the first to notice every imperfection.
Ooooo The Smell!
The smell is horrible when you first open the package. It smells like rubber times 3. Even after the first 5 uses, the smell was still there. I could even smell it on my baby after his bath. I had to take a citrus wash and wash the tub to remove the smell. There is no longer a rubbery smell. My entire bathroom smelled like rubber for over a week.
Storage is a Problem
With the tub being larger than my infant tub, I have a problem with storage. I would usually store the tub under my bathroom cabinet. This one doesn't fit. I have to deflate it after every use. I must then, inflate it before the next use. My husband has promised me a bigger cabinet above the toilet so I can store this bath tub along with other things, so maybe something good will come of this.
It is a Chore to Fill the Tub
The inflated side is approximately 6 inches. My faucet doesn't reach six inches into the tub. I have to use my hand to press in the side so the water doesn't splash everywhere.
My Experiences With the Kids II Soft & Safe Baby Bath Tub
After filling up the tub and placing my baby in it, I noticed that the water level was too high. If he would have slipped, his head would go under the water. I pulled the valve and allowed much of the water to flow out. I would advice to only fill the tub up about 5 inches. At this level, if your baby did slip his head wouldn't go under water. My little one seemed much happier being able to sit upright. He attempted to climb over the sides numerous time. With a few toys placed in the Kids II Soft & Safe Baby Bath Tub he had no problem with me washing his hair and bathing him. The inflatable bottom has to be more soothing on his bottom than the hard infant tub. With water being able to cover more of his body in the Kids II Soft & Safe Baby Bath Tub, he stays warmer. The cold months are approaching and I am so reluctant to even bath him in fear that he will get sick. Yes, I am a first time mom <*grin*>.
I think he is a little upset that he can't splash me so easily. The sides of the tub are higher than the infant tub, so they usually catch the water before I do. When those arms start swinging and his feet start kicking, I don't have to scream, "Aaaaahhh you wet me!" near as often.
I am unsure that my child will be able to use this tub until he is 24 months. He is a big baby and I can't see how he will fit in the tub until he is two years old. It will vary from child to child. We will certainly get our use out of the tub though!
This tubs help us save water, hence saves us money. With the infant seat, you would have to use much more water to fill the tub. I worry about keeping my little one warm so that he doesn't get sick. The Kids II Soft & Safe Baby Bath Tub only takes about 4 gallons to fill totally.
Always remember to Never leave your child unattended in the tub! It takes very little water for a child to drown.
One more note on this tub. It does in fact Conform to the Safety Requirements (ASTM F963). This always makes a mother feel better.
