| Lisa_J's Full Review: Mary Sheedy Kurcinka - Kids, Parents, and Power St... |
Kids, Parents and Power Struggles guides you in untangling the bafflement of power struggles by contributing perspicacity into individual personality differences and providing an understanding of normal patterns.
It aids you in recognizing the uniqueness of your child. You are provided with a positive approach toward what may have previously been viewed as a negative situation. You will realize that there are an immense amount of behavior modification/discipline options available for those unraveling moments.
Mary Kurcinka provides you strategies for:
-Understanding emotions
-Managing intensity
-Identifying triggers
Mary Kurcinka, yet again (as previously exhibited in Raising Your Spirited Child), exhibits positive mannerism to utilize in an effort to use power struggles as an opportunity to teach your child essential life skills. For instance: how to calm themselves, how to be assertive rather than aggressive, how to solve problems, and how to work cooperatively with you and others.
Who Won?
Power struggles need not be viewed as who wins. There is so much more then win or lose to be gained here! This very attitude that will attempt to drain parents and children, can literally be guided into life skill gain.
Complicated as it may seem in the fervor of the battle moment, conflict really can provide you with an opportunity to connect with your child and guide them towards the healthy coping skills for adulthood. Illustrations (well written examples that allow you to create your own visual illustration) are presented to aid you with accomplishing just this.
Validation For This Mom.
I was so thrilled to devour the pages of this well manusrcripted book! We have long been using similar approaches with our children. In the heat of exasperation, mostly when they are at growth milestones (whether physical or mental – I always witness these in children around their birthday or half birthday), it is nice to have a reassuring manual to open up. This book provides us with just that. Validated are my husband and my parenting style.
A Hard Earned, But Well Deserved, Present.
This method may seem initially more exasperating. However you will soon realized the bountiful of reward. When you realize that your child is making appropriate choices because it is a healthy choice, and not just because of some superimposed fear, you then know that the present of your endurance and patience is right there.
You see, I decided early on, that I wanted my children to be capable of making choices – good ones. Not because of fear of Dad and Mom. Because it is the right thing to do. No, they are not perfect, neither am I. They are respectful, responsible, correctable, humble, independent, perseverant, and so forth.
My present here is mutual respect and cooperation. Yes, I am the parent. That means it is my responsibility to guide my child into adulthood. And, this fabulous book provides me with just that opportunity!
As most any parent, I love my children immensely. Not just my children, all children. I like to do whatever I can to guide myself in the ability to raise them. I take this job serious. As a parent, a day care provider, a Sunday School Teacher, a preschool teacher, a public school volunteer, and an admirer of all children I delight in putting forth positive approach!
Just Who Is It For?
I recommend this publication for anyone that has interaction with children. We, as adults, need to take seriously our responsibility of raising this future generation!
