Nick:

I can understand that kind of reaction to Knopfler. There is an "acquired taste" at work in how he approaches his craft in my mind. He is so understated in what he does that people take that for a lack of passion, whereas it's more just his style of playing (a modern Chet Atkins) in a concise, "less is more" like way. In any event, thanks for commenting.

..."just about right. Not perfect, but right all around" kind of pegs Knopfler. He's a wonderful technical guitarist and arranger, with superb taste, but there's something lacking....soul perhaps?....that keep shim from the greats, in my book. Yet I love listening to him, and I respect the diversity of music he has gotten involved in since his "Sultan of Swing" phase...

cheers, nick
