LonghornMan's Full Review: Kimberly Clark Kleenex Anti Viral Facial Tissue Pa...
I, like thousands of others, have become yet another casualty of the cold and flu season. With a surplus of mucus draining from my nose and my energy level waning I set out to collect the supplies necessary to combat the unprovoked invasion of my immune system.
Naturally one of the first products I purchased was a box of Kleenex Brand facial tissues. I chose Kleenex for several reasons. For one, at just $1.99 plus tax for 112 3-ply tissues Kleenex offered what I perceived to be the best deal. They were also the only product that offered a tissue that boasted the added advantage of the ability to kill 99.9% of cold and flu viruses. This was a major consideration for me because I do not want to risk re-infecting myself every time I am exposed to discarded tissues soiled with snot that contains the very germs that my immune system is fighting feverishly to destroy. I also want to take all necessary precautions to avoid infecting my roommate with germs that will result in her suffering from the same ailment with which I am afflicted.
The active ingredients contained within Kleenex Anti-Viral are Citric Acid and Sodium Lauryl Sulfate. These ingredients are present in the middle layer of the tissue and upon activation by moisture, kill 99.9% of cold and flu viruses within 15 minutes of contact. These tissues are virucidal against Rhinoviruses Type 1A and 2 that cause the common cold, Influenza A and Influenza B which cause the flu and Respiratory Syncytial Virus which is the leading cause of respiratory infection in children. Citric Acid makes up 7.51%, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate makes up 2.02% and the remainder of the ingredients are inert. If one holds a tissue up to the light, little blue dots containing the anti-viral ingredients can be seen.
The tissues are 3-ply and in my experience have proven to be strong enough to withstand hard nose blowing and sneezing. At 8.4 by 8.2 inches, the size is sufficient to catch unwanted mucus as well as wad the tissue up without getting any snot on one’s hands. The tissues contain an additive to make them stronger. The only downside to the additive is that it causes the tissues to take longer to break down than regular toilet tissue. Therefore, it probably is not a great idea to flush these down the toilet especially if you rely on a septic tank. I would also refrain from tossing them on your compost pile. The tissues themselves are not recyclable or constructed of recycled materials. However, the box is made of recycled materials and can be recycled after all the tissues have been used.
Despite their strength, these Kleenex anti-viral tissues are surprisingly soft to the touch. I have not had any of the raw, burning sensation in my nose and nostrils that I have experienced after using cheaper facial tissues in the past.
The box is 9 inches long, 3 ¼ inches high and just over 4 ½ inches wide. Kleenex refers to this particular size box as the “medium count.” It is suitable to put on a night stand, end table, coffee table, etc. The box is wrapped in a plastic sleeve that says “Kleenex” in their trademark lettering in white on a navy blue background and says “anti-viral” in white lettering within a light orange swoosh. This sleeve has to be removed before one can tear off the perforated box top making the tissues for use. The tissues are arranged inside the box so that when you pull one out, another is pulled up through the dustproof slit so that you will have no problem grabbing one the next time you need it.
The box color I chose is called Looking Glass Blue and is identical to the stock photo included with this review. The other colors available at the store I visited were rose and green. The other box colors and graphics available depending on the retailer from which you purchase Kleenex are Plum, Bonker Bugs, Creepy Creatures, Micro Monsters and Silly Stripes. No matter what color you choose, 112 anti-viral tissues are present within every medium count box.
Knowing that the spread of my virus will not continue after disposing of my used Kleenexes makes me feel at least a little better while I suffer through this ailment. I definitely recommend these Kleenex Anti-Viral to anyone suffering from a cold, the flu, hay fever or any other malady that causes one to need to use copious amounts of facial tissue.
