When the miniature USB drives first came out, I thought it was a very neat idea. However, I also wondered why anyone would buy them when you can just burn to a CD-RW. The answer: time and convenience.
The USB drive plugs right in to a USB port and works without having to install anything (caveat: I've only used it on Windows XP computers). Copying files to and from the drive is REALLY fast...a second or two, compared to the several minutes it takes to set up and burn a CD. I've even used it to transfer files between two networked computers before, rather than wading through the complex folder / file system.
The Kingston USB is very convenient to carry. It's a little smaller than a lighter, and so light you won't notice it's there (careful it doesn't end up in the washer!). It also comes with a necklace with a detachable ring to carry around your neck, should you need it.
The cap doesn't have a latching mechanism, but the interference fit seems tight enough to last a long time. I'd be more comfortable with a mechanism to latch it on though - something like the iPod Shuffle would work nicely.
I've been using it for a few months now and have had no problems, even though I've dropped it and tossed it a number of times.
