dkozin's Full Review: Kingston (SD/512) (512 MB) SD Card
Since my Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ2 digital camera came with an 8-Mb Secure Digital card (SD Card), which could fit less than 10 photos at highest resolution in Fine mode, I needed to get a larger SD card. I went for Kingston 512 SD Card (sd/512), which lets me fit close to 500 photos.
Pricing
I got my SD card online for $43 (shipping and tax included) less $15 rebate, bringing the total to scant $27.
(you can copy and paste the above address into your browser's address area).
The card seems to be well-built, but, as with any electronic device, I would not recommend to put it in extreme weather conditions or apply strong bending forces to it.
The card came with a semi-transparent case made of plastic - a useful item.
Speed
The card provides average transfer rate of 2 MB/s. I have not noticed the difference in speed in comparison with the standard 8 Mb Panasonic SD card that came with my camera. You can get faster SD cards (8-10 MB/s), but they are either normally available in larger capacities only or cost more. For my camera, which produces files about 1 Mb in size, the speed is not an issue.
Write Protection
The card has a mechanical switch that provider write protection. I never use it and, in fact, keep the card in my camera most of the time. Since it fits more photos than I can take at one battery charge and since I use cameras USB port to transfer the photos to my computer, I have no need to remove the card often, much less to use this Lock switch.
Warranty
The card came with lifetime warranty. Although it is good to have this kind of warranty, I am sure than you will be able to buy 8 Gb card for peanuts in a couple of years from now. And the warranty will not help you if your valuable photos are lost.
Durability
Since the card has no moving parts, I expect high reliability and durability, especially taking into account the fact that I dont remove it from the camera often.
Uses
The card can be used in devises that accept Secure Digital cards (e.g. digital still cameras, Panasonic e-wear cameras, MP3 players, PDAs, etc.)
