| msjam's Full Review: Kirkland Signature Tri-Ply Stainless Steel Cookwar... |
After long research, I decided to purchase the Kirkland 13 Piece 18/10 Stainless Steel Copper-bonded 5 ply base set through Costco.
I had always cooked using non-stick cookware, I had used T-fal, Calphalon, Cuisinart and a set of no-name brand my husband got from Sears years ago. But all of them ended up scratched at the bottom and I was having to use oil on my non-stick pans to cook eggs. So began my quest for Stainless Steel cookware.
I went to Macys to look at All-Clad, I liked what I saw but it was too high a price for a cookware. When I first saw Kirkland's SS set at Costco, I felt like Homer Simpson drooling over a donut! It was a beautiful set and I became a proud owner of Kirkland's SS cookware set.
The overall design of this set is just gorgeous, the flared edges makes it so much easier and creates less mess when pouring, the set came with metal lids just like All-Clad.
On the downside, the handles stay cool but are smooth and rounded and tend to slip when the pan is full, so exercise extra care, better yet buy some slip on rubber handles.
These pans distribute heat evenly, I don't have to move sausages around to avoid hot spots and burning, each pan is manufactured with a 5-ply base construction consisting of two layers of stainless steel, two layers of aluminum and a copper core. All of this allows the pan to reach and maintain the desired cooking temperature quickly and evenly.
Use and Care: I handwashed all the pieces the first time and towel dried them. I eventually got lazy and just stuck them in the dishwasher, I have not seen any problem so far.
To remove burned-on foods, I simply soaked the pan in warm-soapy water for a few minutes, then placed the pan in the dishwasher.
I'm finding that if I use low-medium heat with this cookware I end up cooking faster. These pans are oven safe as well up to 500 F. The set can be used on gas, electric, halogen and ceramic ranges.
I prefer to use wood utensils over plastic or metal, but it's comforting to know that I can use any of them on this cookware and will not damage it.
What's in the set:
8.5 QT / 8 L Covered Stockpot
3.5 QT/ 3.3 L Covered Saute
1.5 QT 1.4 L Covered Saucepan
2 QT /1.8 L Covered Saucepan (with Steamer insert)
4 QT / 3.7 L Covered Saucepan
8.5 IN / 21.5 CM Flared Edge Skillet
10 IN / 25.4 Flared Edge Skillet
I kept a couple of older non-stick pans for cooking eggs and fish, I don't like cooking eggs swimming in oil.
