lisaffire's Full Review: Kiss My Face Aftersun Aloe Soother 4oz
In the world of skin care, prevention is key, however there are simply times when even the best efforts are either not enough or, in the case of our kids, ignored.
My son ended up going to a friend's house for a swim party and forgot to pack his sunscreen. I'm not sure if he would have used it anyway, since at nearly 12 years old and just having finished up sixth grade, the 'too cool' factor weighs heavy. You know, we're 'too cool for sunscreen' or anything else mom recommends. Since we were in the middle of a heat wave we'd already had several days of being outside at the community pool with sunblock, however that one hot, hazy afternoon poolside was enough to give my son a pretty good sunburn on his shoulders and across the top of his back.
What I didn't know is before going to this infamous pool party, he'd already developed a fair bit of redness and add in a last day of school of friends giving hearty pats on the back, well, it didn't take much to crisp my son's skin pretty well. It was red and hot to the touch when he'd let me get near and getting a shirt on and off was a lesson in yoga, patience and plugging my ears to the overreaction. All parents know that feeling of helplessness when our kids aren't up to par and most of us have had a sunburn ourselves and can sympathize with the pain and stages of sunburn.
Thankfully, I had just received a drugstore.com order that included the Kiss My Face Aftersun Aloe Soother. I had ordered it as a "just in case" item and I was really glad I had. Kiss My Face Aftersun Aloe Soother is a 100% paraben free sunburn reliever. It's fragrance free and contains more than just aloe.
Ingredients are simple and include: Aloe Vera Gel, Jewelweed Extract, Yucca Glauca Extract, Allantoin, Panthenol, Hydroxyethyl Cellulose (plant derivative), Triethanolamine, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Diazolidinyl Urea, Wild Mint Oil
Wondering about jewelweed? Well, according to my herbalist friend, it's what helps cure Poison Ivy reactions and is a good skin soother; it's good to see Kiss My Face agrees. Yucca too has a history of being used for its healing properties and few folks question aloe and some even keep an aloe plant handy for quick application to burns of all kinds. This triple punch of healing plants combines into a soothing, non sticky gel that's clear (no dyes) and effective.
My son wasn't too happy that I had to rub it on my with my hands but it did offer soothing, cooling relief without stinging. A friend of his came over that had a sunburn in a different stage. He was in the deep peeling skin, dry and skin still being red and angry stage. I applied some on his skin and he was really surprised and delighted that it made it feel better nearly instantly. I continued to use this product, as needed, on my son's burn and it healed up very quickly, went to peeling stage fast and offered needed relief. After the first time, he stopped complaining when I applied it, seeing the benefits beyond the slight moment of discomfort to apply. It visibly moisturized the dry spots not just momentarily as the gel was applied but for a long time afterward. It did take a little time to dry completely but left no sticky residue.
According to the product tube, it's pH balanced, 100% biodegradable and is in a #2 recyclable package. It contains no animal ingredients, dyes or fragrances and was not tested on animals. It's great to have on hand and has really won me over as a great sunburn remedy.
