Pros: well-constructed knives, Aesthetically pleasing to the eye, ease of use, sharpness of blade
When it comes to setting up your kitchen with all of the amenities that it could possibly need, one of the main things that you need to have is a good set of knives. When you are preparing a meal, or when you are just cutting up some fruits and vegetables, you want to have something that you can rely on, and something that will do the job quickly. KitchenAid has put out many different cutlery products that can be really good for this purpose, and the KitchenAid 12-Piece Cutlery Set specifically is that one that we have right now. Acquired as a birthday present, this was at the top of the list of items that were needed to really "set off" the kitchen. It looked to be a good set, so when it appeared in a nice wrapping, with a bow on top, it was a welcome addition.
Contents of the Knife-Set:
12-Pieces in total---
*1 Wooden blook for the knives to sit in
*1 8-inch chef's knife
*1 8-inch slicing knife
*1 7-inch Santoku knife
*1 5 1/2-inch serrated knife
*1 3 1/2 inch pairing knife
*1 Pair of shears
*1 Piece of Sharpening Steel
*4 Steak knives
As you can see here, the set has just about every type of knife that you are going to need when you are cooking in the kitchen. With the addition of the steak knives to the group, you also have something really sharp that can be used at the dinner table as well. Now the knives all come sharpened, and each have their own slot in the wooden block that is used as a base. The block comes in a nice natural wooden color, with a great finish, or in the black color that has become popular in most kitchens. The set up of the block has three of the larger knives placed vertically on either side of the shears, and the steak knives lined up on a slightly lower level of the block beneath the shears. In appearance the block has a lot to offer aesthetically to the kitchen, and when you place it on the counter, you just want to look at it for a few minutes.
The Knives and Their Handling
The knives are built quite strong, with the blades connected to the handles using stainless steel rivets. The blades themselves are made of high carbon stainless steel, and give off a very nice shine when cleaned properly. As for the handles of the knives, they are fully contoured, and have a nice grip to them. That grip translates to some nice, precise cutting when you are dealing with your foods. The knives are easy to handle, and even if you have wet hands, they don't just slip out of your hand. The cuts are quick, and just as precise when you are using them, and it is a nice change from using a knife that has been worn down through the years. It is actually a great experience to cut with a knife that works well, and this KitchenAid product is one that lives up to the hype.
Storage / Care for the KitchenAid Knives
As I stated earlier, all of the knives fit nicely back into the wooden block when you are done using (or looking at) them. The wood has a nice finish, so if you get anything on it, it is just as easy to wash off as anything else you have in your kitchen. Or in most cases, I think you can just wipe it down, and the finish helps with the cleaning. The knives themselves need to be hand-washed after each use, and you are advised not to put these in the dishwasher. It is also a good idea not to let them soak in water for too long, or to simply leave them out after you have used them. To keep them in their perfect condition, it is important to hand wash them, wipe them down, and place them back in the block soon after you use them. This can prolong the life, and the sharpness of each one of your knives. They are very easy to wash, so it only takes a few seconds after you have used them to have them back in the block safely. As long as you care about your knives, and show that in how well you take care of them, this is a product that will be in your household for many years after purchase.
My Thoughts On This KitchenAid Cutlery Set
The KitchenAid 12 Piece Cutlery Set is really a great product that I think every kitchen should have. The knives are a good quality, and are very easy to handle in the kitchen. If you take care of them, this is a very long term product for your house, and it is something that can be used on a daily basis. Everyone uses knives, and there is no point to having a set that doesn't get the job done right. Instead opt for something like this KitchenAid set, and you will not only be able to cut well, but you will have more fun doing it. It goes without saying that if you can slice through the food you are preparing without much fuss, it makes the job go faster and prevents the stress of cutting something incorrectly. I highly recommend this set of knives, and I think that every kitchen needs (and deserves) them.
