Having the refrigerator/freezer go out is a terrible experience at any time. When it's this expensive and it breaks down after 18 months it's extra frustrating. When it breaks down just after the newborn has arrived at home and it takes two weeks to get it fixed, it's enough to drive one to write an epinions.com review!
The insult-added-to-injury is that the break-down wasn't covered by the warranty. Since the "inverter box" isn't part of the "sealed refrigeration system," it's not covered. Perhaps the inverter box isnt sealed, but I have a pile of spoiled food (including our wedding cake) that attests to the fact that its part of the refrigeration system!
My wife is also convinced that even when the freezer is working it makes everything smell freezer burnt. I'm not sure whether we can blame this on the freezer, but everything does tend to smell like it's been in there for years. Maybe we've got the temperature set incorrectly, but we haven't noticed this with other freezers.
