Pros: Looks great, nice finish
Cons: Noisy, the fan runs 23 hours a day
The Bottom Line: Look at other brands and only by KitchenAid if you have no other choice.

| johnson2004's Full Review: KitchenAid KSCS25FKSS Stainless Steel (25.4 cu. ft... |
I bought this fridge as part of a 4 product package from Western Appliance in San Jose, CA. The minor issues I had just transacting the purchase should have been my first subtle clue. Upon receiving the unit and having it installed it was very loud. A service call was made and the guy that showed up said "yup, it's loud until you fill it up." So, we did. And it's as loud if not louder. There is a high pitched whine and a lower pitched buzz from the fan and compressor. The high pitch seems to come and go but the buzz is non-stop. And when I say non-stop I mean that I have never heard it stop (and I've been in my kitchen at various hours of the day and night). I called Western again and then said that I HAD to have another service call or pay a restocking and replacement fee.
So, another technician came out. His assessment was that the noise is normal and that it is the number one reason he goes out to service KitchenAids. He has replaced fans, compressors, even whole refrigerator and the sound remains. He said it has to do with the new energy efficient compressor and that it must run 20-23 hours a day to keep the unit cold. So, I called Western again. No sympathy there. He actually admitted that this unit is his number one seller and that many of the buyers have "commented" on the noise but I'm the only one that "complained". He figures the other buyers must "just live with it". The option again was made that I could pay a restocking and replacement fee. What a racket appliance sales is: buyer can't test-drive the product and once they have it you can charge restocking and replacement fees.
Well, I'm stuck with it for the moment but I have not decided on my final plan. Either way, I will not be buying KitchenAid products again. The funny thing is, my $800 Maytag that I had before this unit was quiet as a mouse. Go figure.
