| Donnie013's Full Review: KitchenAid KSRS25FGWH (25.5 cu. ft.) |
Yes, that's right, there is a place for everything ... and with my refrigerator, everything is in its place - right down to the egg basket.
When I went looking for a refrigerator, knowing the KitchenAid reputation (and already purchasing other KitchenAid products), I simply had to look at their different models. I decided on the KSRS25FG. The reason behind the F in the FG series is that this remarkable refrigerator has a built-in FILTRATION system to elimate those nasty bits of bacteria found in most drinking water.
The KSRS25 has the Extend Fresh Temperature Management System(tm)which is totally outrageous. I never before was able to keep left-overs for one week. Now I can keep for over two. What a savings. No more waste! This system works in the refrigerator AND the freezer, but work independently. It uses SmartFan to transfer the cold air from the freezer to the refrigerator for a faster response to temperature changes (when you open the door) without turning on the compressor. Cool idea? HUH?
Another great feature is the water and ice dispenser on the door. It lets you choose between cubed ice or crushed ice and will not work while the freezer door is open. While that might not seem important, it is actually a safety feature because of the ice grinding mechanism. It's also a good idea when little ones are around. You don't need a flooded floor should the child press the water button while you have the door open.
This feature also comes with a "safety lock". It's just a little button located on the door that enables you to lock the system while little ones are around. I specifically like the "lock" feature on mine when my 3 year old grandson visits. (LOL) (Yes, he's a button-pusher who loves to investigate things.)
Another neat idea that's built into this feature is a small over-head light. Just press the button and while it serves as a night-light, it also saves the illumination of the entire kitchen should you just want a cool glass of water.
On feature I especially like is how they make their shelves. They are called the Spill Clean (tm) glass shelves. The shelves have a ridge at the ends preventing anything that spills from oozing over the sides. Helps keep the rest of the refrigerator clean and wipes up beautifully with nothing left behind.
KitchenAid also added a RollerTracClearVue shelf that actually pulls out for easy reaching of the smaller items that may be at the back. I use mine to store the smaller items like packaged biscuits, bagels, etc. Some models are equipped with an attached, removable, clear, rotating carousel, which can be removed when needed. It is also completely dish-washer safe!
KitchenAid thought of everything when the installed the vegetable and meat lockers. With humidity controls working independently of each other, you never need to worry if your meats are getting to much cool air or your vegetables too much moisture. I've noticed that my lettuce doesn't wilt and brown as fast as in other refrigerators. In fact, I forgot I had celery in it. When I found it a few weeks later I was surprise that it was still as crisp as the day I had bought it (around Thanksgiving)!
Ever wonder just how long you keep fresh meat in the refrigerator after you bring it home from the butcher? I put chicken in my meat locker on Monday and then remembered we had other plans for dinner. I was a bit concerned about leaving the chicken so I turned the temperature on the locker down just a bit. Tuesday, we went fishing and I was in no ambitious mood to begin cleaning and cooking chicken. It would just have to wait. Wednesday, I finally decided to cook the chicken. It was as perfect as the day I brought it home from the store. In fact, it was better. The cooler air kept it completely fresh and juicy.
Speaking of fresh and juicy, ever hate that silvery-looking slime that begins to coat your cold cuts after a few days? Guess what!! With KitchenAid's Deli Locker that doesn't happen. The sandwich meats and cheeses stay fresh for days upon days. A good example is the time I bought ham and Swiss cheese from the supermarket deli. Freshly sliced, we enjoyed our lunch and made our sandwiches for our trip to see the kids - a trip that would keep us away from home for the next 10 days.
Oh well, I figured, I'll just have to toss the leftover ham and cheese thinking it would have turned bad by the time we got back. Well, it wasn't! The meat and cheese were as perfectly good as the day I bought them! THANK YOU, KITCHENAID!!
The reason everything in the refrigerator stays so fresh is a little system by KitchenAid called RollerTracFreshChill.
Its primary use is for vegetables and meats. I used to throw out more cold cuts and left-overs than I'd like to think about. But with KitchenAids FreshChill, the meat stays fresh for more than two weeks, the cold cuts don't get that slimy film on it and the veggies stay crisp and green.
BUT WAIT!! While all this sounds like a refrigerator sent from Heaven, there's more!
All the shelves, bins and door racks in the refrigerator are completely adjustable and removable so you can actually DESIGN THE INTERIOR to suit your own needs. It also comes with a removable wine holder which can also be used for a 2-liter bottle of soda. The door holds two separate racks that will hold 5 cans of soda each - and can be tossed in the dishwasher for easy cleaning.
The freezer baskets slide out for convenience and it contains one "Quick Freeze" shelf so if you're bringing home ice cream and it begins to get a bit soft in the car, just place it on this shelf and the ice cream is saved from a life of mush!
The ice maker bin is removable should you need a quick large amount of ice for those large coolers we often take to the beach.
Finally, a refrigerator was made to make life easy and economical.
Located at the bottom of this awesome unit are leveling screws. Let's face it, not every floor in every house or apartment is identical. Yet, with these wonderful little gadgets, you don't have to worry about your refrigerator sitting unevenly. Just place a level on the top and then turn the screws on the bottom until the bubble in the level sits in the middle. It's that easy!!
Just in case the doors hang unevenly because of shipping or delivery, the manual shows you how easy it is to realign the doors with the aid of ONE screwdriver!
For safety reasons, it's recommended that you plug this unit into an outlet that has a 115-volt, 60-Hz capacity with 15 or 20 fused grounded amperage.
And yes, you will need a three-pronged grounded receptacle.
It also comes with an Energy Rating that exceeds the federal energy standards by 25%.
While there is a LIFETIME WARRANTY on the Slide N Lock racks and door bins, the rest of the unit is covered under a 1-5-10 year warranty for parts and labor.
============================================================
So, in conclusion, you might ask if I'm satisfied with my purchase. I can answer that in just four words:
