Pros: Solid constructionExcellent mixing actionVersatile attachments
I have been eyeing this mixer from KitchenAid for years now. I always shrugged away from it due to the cost. I had been monitoring the price for years hoping it would go on sale or clearance so I could afford it without the guilt. This is a professional quality mixer. This Christmas, a dear friend gave me one! Plus we get $30 back from a Kitchen Aid rebate.
My first impression was that this sucker is heavy. It's too heavy to go under the counter, so on top it sits but it almost a work of art. Deciding on a color is part of the fun, there are 28 unique colors to choose from. I choose Empire red. The construction is solid, made in the USA and well thought out.
The mixing bowl is a full 5 quart stainless steel bowl with a handle. It locks firmly into the base of the mixer which allows you to get a great mix. The unique method of mixing is what makes this mixer so wonderful. One beater runs clockwise and the shaft runs counterclockwise. There are 67 points of contact with the bowl, which eliminates the need to rotate the bowl when mixing. This was a new concept to me and I immediately could see why the mix was so through.
This baby has plenty of power at 325 watts and it has 10 speed controls mounted on the upper left. The mixing power of this is astounding and it makes easy work of mixing cookies, butter and bread dough and whipped merrainge.
The tilt back feature makes inputting ingredients easy and the mixer comes with a plastic pour guard in case I have liquid ingredients. Included with the mixer are a flat beater, a coated hook (for bread dough) and a wire whip whisker. Everything is dishwasher safe which makes clean up a breeze.
There are many atttachments I can order and I am considering the pasta attachments since my family loves pasta. Hello whole wheat pasta! The mixer has a one year warranty and a booklet for recipies to get you started.
I love this mixer! I have expanded my limited cooking/baking experience and I am more confident that my recipies will turn out as expected. I am throughly impressed with the speed and versatility of this mixer and what a difference it makes with the quality of prepared food.
So far, I have made cupcakes, meatlballs, ragu sauce, cookies and my first batch of bread. All were very successful and I have never made bread dough before. The bread mixing hook eliminated my need to hand knead the dough which kept me from making bread for a long time. I am actually excited to be in the kitchen more (never thought I would say that!)
Love it! Love it! Love it!
