diego7979's Full Review: KitchenAid Artisan KSM150PSSM 325 Watts Stand Mixe...
That’s when it all started in Troy Ohio. Herbert Johnson invented a great device that changed the way we prepare food. It wasn’t until 1919 that the company began but since then, they have been a great mixer for generations upon generations. Reasons you might ask?? Easy! Power, construction and style.
This particular mixer has given me the power to rip through potatoes to make silky smooth mashed potatoes, fluff eggs whites till the cows come home, and mix pancake batter quickly. A 325-watt motor delivers this kind of results. Taming that power is also easy with the 10-speed switch and (on the Artisan) the pouring shield / splatter protector. When I was researching stand mixers, I found that the industry rates the mixers on a “Flour Power” rating. This rating takes in to account the mixer power, the bowl size and the motor strength. The higher the number, the more you can do at once. The Artisan is rated at 9, which according to the Kitchen Aid web site means ̉ ½ loves of bread and 7 lbs of mashed potatoes.” That is power that will handle most situations around the kitchen.
There is not too much to talk about when it comes to construction. This thing is HEAVY!!! I mean not just a little, I mean it could double as a wrecking ball if you really needed it to. True, that is a little bit of a draw back, but at the same time it is what makes them last. I would have my grandma’s mixer but my mom still has it. That is construction to last!
Style is classic with the Kitchen Aid stand mixer. Not only does it have the 50’s retro style that takes us back to the time of Leave it to Beaver and coming home to the smell of a hot meal being prepared but it is also an icon. The Smithsonian in DC has honored Kitchen Aid’s stand mixer as an “American Icon” and placed one in their museum. Color adds to the style. Pick a color that you like and I am sure that you will find it on their mixer. I personally have the Tangerine because my wife loves orange. It is extremely striking in the kitchen and will be for years to come.
Overall there is always a question to ask. How much do I have to spend for quality and will I use this thing? I would say that I never thought I would use a stand mixer until we unwrapped it and said, “man that is nice.” Since then, I have only raved about it 6 out of 7 days a week. Is it worth it for the money? Sure! You can get one from Kitchen Aid at their on-line remanufactured site for only $199! With such power, construction and style don’t be afraid to mix it up!
