Blended coffee drinks, smoothies, soups, super-smooth sauces, and crushed ice! This KitchenAid 5-Speed Blender does it all.

Wielding an impressive .9 HP motor against anything you throw at it--or into it--this blender's 5 speeds cream soups and cut through crunchy ice. Even with around 6 months near-daily use, this KitchenAid blender's razor sharp blades and motor still chip ice at speed 3 (I rarely go beyond speed 3 or 4) like it did the day I pulled it out of the box.
This blender is very sturdily constructed. It features a heavy die-cast metal base, reinforced steel coupler where the base of the caraffe attaches to the motor (no plastic grinding on plastic), and a one-piece steel blade. The caraffe, by the way, has a 56-ounce shatter resistant polycarbonate pitcher which also happens to be dishwasher safe.
Just like the brand's other heavy duty products, this mixer comes with a 1-year warranty on parts and labor. No hassle.
There are 5 speed settings on the base of the mixer. The buttons on the "clean touch control pad' are big and easy to press. There is also a crush ice button and a pulse function.
One of the interesting things about this particular blender, though, is its "Intelli-speed" technology. I was never entirely sure just what that is or how it works, but quit frankly I would pass it off as just some kind of KitchenAid marketing ploy. Supposedly, electronic sensers keep a consistent power flow for uninterrupted blending. I've seen no evidence of any such thing with my blender although I suppose that means its doing its job. I wish I could write more on the Intelli-speed control technology, but the product material and manufactuerer's writing on this blender is just as vague.
The dishwasher-safe caraffe has a pour spout to prevent drips and spills, a nice feature when dealing with hot soups or sauces that need to be transferred to pots on the stove. The control pad is seamless and the buttons wipe clean with one pass of a sponge. The cord stores neatly with the small but mighty unit (9" by 7.25'' base).
Do you hear what I hear?
I have seeen reviews that rate this as a very loud blender, but I have had no such experience with the machine. I find that the fully enclosed motor keeps the whirring sound nicely contained--even with the base's vented, air-flow design (to keep the motor from overheating).

Some features of this blender that I really like are that it is easy to assemble. There's no struggling with big, bulky parts and sharp metal blades. The caraffe pops right on the base and you're off. I also love that the lidded caraffe has an opening in the top for streaming in oil while making a salad dressing or pesto, for example. Finally, the blender comes in an array of colors that you can match to your kitchen or your own tastes.
