| Naomi7835's Full Review: KitchenAid Utensil Set Tool Set |
Have you ever received a gift from someone, without it being a special occasion? Well 2 weeks ago I received this KitchenAid Utensil Tool Set from my daughter in law and son. She said that I do so much baby sitting for them that they wanted to give me a gift to show their appreciation of what a nice and helpful Mom and Gramma I was.
My daughter in law said that she ordered it on the internet for me, and as soon as my grand daughters saw that the set had a can opener in it, they told my daughter in law that they had seen me having trouble with my hand operated can opener, and that I needed a new one.
My hand operated can opener was not cutting into the cans, and most of the time it just skipped around the can without cutting. I even cleaned out the can opener, thinking there may have been food or maybe something built up by the cutting wheel. My husband checked it and said it was time time to buy a new one. I guess this must have been that day that my grand daughter overheard him say this. Actually it was only a cheap manual hand can opener which I've had for a few years, and it did serve the purpose, while it lasted.

When I have something new, I have to try it out immediately. I've had this 5 piece KitchenAid Utensil Tool Set for 2 weeks now, so I would like to tell you how each one has worked for me. I've found these kitchen utensils to have been great from peeling my potatoes right to whisking my egg whites.
VEGETABLE AND FRUIT PEELER:
I really appreciate this peeler, because my old peeler used to be my mother in laws and it was really old. It was one of those that had a wooden handle. But I noticed the last couple of times that I had used it, that it wasn't cutting as well anymore, and I had to peel my potatoes with a paring knife.
The KitchenAid Peeler fits my hand nicely The swivel blade on the peeler makes peeling any food a lot easier and quicker to peel whether it's fruits or vegetables. Although it felt a little different to use at first, compared to my old peeler. It didn't take me long, and after using it a few times I've found it very easy to use.
For Easter Sunday I used the peeler to peel my potatoes. We had all my family over, which meant a lot of potatoes had to be peeled to make mashed potatoes. I was surprised at how quick I had my potatoes peeled. The blades on the peeler are real sharp, and I had to be careful that I didn't cut done too deep into the potato. It's a heavy peeler, but still feels comfortable to hold while I'm peeling any kind of food.
My old peeler is now no longer in my cabinet drawer. Although my husband says he is going to put it away and hold on to it because he said it was quite old.
THE WHISK:
The whisk is a good size in length. It has a double set of wires. I've used it for whisking up scrambled eggs and egg whites. The whisks flexible wires whips plenty of air into egg whites in no time at all. Having a good whisk is important to me now, because my other 2 whisks have wire handles, and it's hard to be able to get a good grip on the handles. But the KitchenAid whisk handle is wide and fits my hand nicely and is very comfortable to hold onto.
My grand daughters have this week off because of Spring Recess. So I had the three girls stay over nite. In the morning I used the whisk for whipping up some French toast batter. They got a big kick out of watching me use the whisk, and they were eager to want to try the whisk out. I let each one give it a try. You can't start too early in letting young children help out in making recipes in the kitchen, as long as their supervised.
THE SILICONE SPATULA:
The Silicone spatula also feels nice to grip onto, and the handle is nice and long. I like this because, when I used up all of the mayonnaise up in my mayonnaise jar, I just reached down into the jar and was able to get out every last bit of mayonnaise that was clinging to the bottom and sides of the jar. I think it'll be great when I bake a chicken, or roast. Being it's heat resistant and will with stand high heat, I will be able to scrape out all of those delicious bits on the bottom of the pan to make gravy.
My old Spatula was rubber, and it was hard sometimes to remove all of my cake batter from the bowl because the rubber end would bend. Flexibility is essential, but it must be stiff enough to scrape, stir and fold mixtures, as well as stand up to use. This Silicone Spatula is a little flexible but still allows me to get every last drop of cake batter from the bowl.
No more of those cheap rubber spatulas for me now, I don't have to worry about this KitchenAid Spatula cracking and discoloring like my old rubber spatulas did.
ICE CREAM SCOOP:
I like the length of the scoop because we buy ice cream in the taller containers. When the ice cream is almost gone, it nice to be able to reach down to the bottom to retrieve the rest of the ice cream without getting ice cream all over your hands from the side of the container while I'm trying to get the ice cream out. Because the handle on the ice cream scoop that I had wasn't as long, it was always messy trying to get that last bit of ice cream out of the container.
How many times have you tried to dig into your ice cream when it's frozen very hard, and had a hard time getting the ice cream out? This happens to me once in a while. I always had to run my ice cream scoop under hot water so I could get the ice cream out. This sturdy ice cream scoop makes it easy for me to be able to scoop out even the hardest of ice cream, with no problem at all. The ice cream scoop has a nice weight to it and the edges dig nicely into the ice cream.
Easter Sunday I even scooped the mashed potatoes, out and put some on the grand kids plates, with the ice cream scoop. First I took my pastry brush and brushed a little margarine around the scoop very lightly. This made the mashed potatoes slip off nicely right onto their plates. They laughed and thought my mashed potatoes looked really cool looking sitting on their plates.
CAN OPENER:
I like the feel of the oversized knob on the can opener. The knob is shaped so that it conforms nicely to my fingers. I don't have any trouble turning the knob, as it turns very easily, and cuts the lids off of smaller sized cans along with bigger sizes also. I've used it several times so far and I am pleased that I finally have a good can opener that is easy to operate and works so well.
CLEANING:
These KitchenAid Utensils are dishwasher safe, except for the can opener. Of course I don't have a dishwasher, but they wash up just as easy by hand in soapy water.
MY FINAL THOUGHTS:
I'm pleased as punch that my grand kids, daughter in law and son gave me this KitchenAid Utensil Tool Set, which I'm very satisfied with. I love the handles on the utensils. The handles on each piece are smooth and heavy, which gives me a comfortable firm grip and are weighty enough to provide control when using them. This KitchenAid Utensil Tool Set features a sleek looking design, which will go with any style kitchen. These KitchenAid Utensils are functional as well as strong, and I recommend this KitchenAid Set highly.
