sweetsue_98's Full Review: KitchenAid BCG100 Electric Blades Grinder
If you have ever been the victim of your non-flavored coffee beans being ground at the grocery store just after someones vanilla mocha flavored coffee, you will understand why a grinder at home is most important for a good cup of coffee.
I have had several different grinders of which all worked fine, but the main issue was they just did not have the capacity for many beans, it took multiple times to get your coffee ground for a few days. When I saw the Kitchenaid Model BGC-100 with a much larger capacity, I was immediately attracted to it.
Reluctantly I purchased it after I noticed it was Made In India. My personal thoughts are not to support companies that make their products in third world countries, but it was on sale, and it was the size I wanted, so I gave in to my better judgement. It is very attractive with a nice choice of colors which are red, white, black, and dark blue. The grinder has a much larger capacity, at least double that of my others. It is not a problem to get at least a weeks worth of coffee ground in two batches instead of perhaps six.
The grinder is about 8 tall, and 4.5 wide, and has a sturdy weight of nearly three pounds. With all of the excitement about the features such as a heavy duty blade, large capacity, very sturdy and long cord, pulse control, plus a one year no hassle warranty, there could be nothing wrong with this model.
I purchased it on November 14, 2003 and used it about ten times. There was a significant mess on the countertop, but that is usually the case with any coffee grinder. It was used about ten times and in February 2004 I was grinding coffee and it just stopped. At first, my thought was the plug was bad. After trying a couple of outlets, it was apparent that this thing did not work.
After contacting Kitchenaid, and being told that a replacement would be sent right out, along with a prepaid mailing label to return the old one, I waited. The new one arrived about three weeks ago. Again I used it about five times, and it did exactly the same thing. IT QUIT WORKING!
At this point my call to Kitchenaid about this item wasnt making me very pleased. No doubt the company that has been known for high quality items, is making a less than pefect coffee maker in India, and not in the USA.
It is apparent that all coffee grinders have their moments, like coffee grinds spilling, but this one is no doubt defective. They are sending me another one out, and when it arrives we will see just how long it works.
I wonder if my one year warranty starts over everytime they send me a new one?
