| XSarenkaX's Full Review: Kleenex Cottonelle Flushable Moist Wipes With Aloe |
Everybody poops. I call it having to "go-go," which is derived from having to "go" when talking about having to pee. (Incidentally, if things get runny during "go-go" time, I call it "go-go-go.")
I find personal hygiene to be very important. It may be true that females tend to have a more keen sense of smell than males, (a supposed scientific fact). For whatever reason, I am very aware of offensive odors, especially those that may be due to a sloppy job with the TP.
I find regular toilet paper to be somewhat subpar for its task, especially paper that tends to roll up into little wads (you know what I'm talking about) or leave lint or particles behind after use. Leftover toilet paper remnants can become uncomfortable in sensitive areas of the body. Usually, these remnants go unnoticed until it's inconvenient to do anything about it.
From time to time, this problem would continue to arise and irritate me. I had thought to myself that adults should have a product, like baby wipes, available as an option to get extra clean when necessary. Inspired by this thought, I was fully prepared to try a product made for babies, but was not sure that there were any wipes out there that would be flushable. Not knowing what I'd find, I went looking in the diaper area of the local Target store to see if I could find a flushable wipe that I, as an adult, could use to stay clean between showers.
I was delighted to find that, just around the corner from the baby products aisle, in the middle of the toilet paper display, there was indeed a product for my needs. I saw the Kleenex Cottonelle FreshWipes (which is what they used to be called) sitting there on the shelf and read the description carefully. I bought a starter package, which comes with a plastic white box that flips open and holds about 50 folded wipes (standard refill pack was 50) inside. The unassuming little tub is easily placed on or near the toilet for use.
I tried them out that night, just to see how things go. I did my duty, did the usual wipe with toilet paper, then took a single moist wipe out from the tub nearby, and gave myself a little mini-washing around the privates. (The wipe can be folded over a couple of times if more than one swipe is required, by the way.) When done, I tossed it into the toilet, flushed, and watched carefully to make sure there was no clogging or any problem with the flushing.
These are great. It was as if I'd custom-ordered these wipes. Because they are moist, they were effective at getting rid of the wadding/lint problem, and they left me extra clean. There is aloe & vitamin E in them and no alcohol, so they glide nicely against the skin. I tried Northern's version of wipes once, at someone's house, and noticed there was a lot of friction against the skin. I think they may have some alcohol in them. Cottonelle's wipes feel smooth (for a nice wipe). They also have almost no scent, and flushed without any problems. I found them to be very easy to use and have been using them ever since that day in 1999, without a single problem with my sewer systems. Over the years, I've also come to refer to this product as "wipees."
A single sheet is usually all I need for any typical trip to the bathroom. The package recommends no more than two per flush, to ensure there are no problems with sewer and septic systems. When that certain time of the month came, I realized a new appreciation for this product. Things can get messy for women during their monthly visit from "Aunt Flo" and a moist wipe is great for making sure it's all cleaned up nicely. They are also great for those "go-go-go" times.
Also, since I am married, I can also appreciate the importance of staying as fresh and clean as possible, for those spontaneous spousal encounters. It's much easier to enjoy when you have the confidence of cleanliness. My husband and I like to be close have fun with each other. :) Knowing that we both use the wipees to be extra clean all the time makes the experience much more enjoyable and spontaneous. Cleaning up afterwards is also easier with the aid of the wipees.
I have slowly become more reliant on these wipes for every bathroom break, whether I am home or not. I keep a stash of wipes (packed in a resealable sandwich bag) with me at work for my bathroom breaks there. I also have a stash in my purse, for when I'm at school, in restaurants, or wherever else I may find myself having to use a public toilet. I realize this may be a bit excessive for most people, but I am ready no matter where I am, even if I happen to find out too late that there is no toilet paper in the stall I am using. I never have to worry about that.
Since I discovered these, the product has gone through some changes. They are now called "Kleenex Cottonelle Fresh Folded Wipes" and there is a puppy on the packaging for some reason. The size of each wipe has been enlarged to a slightly bigger size, although they've reduced the refill packages from a 50 count to a 48 count. There are also double-sized, resealable, family-size packages (84 count) available as well.
I also have started seeing in stores the RollWipes version of this product, which utilizes a container that mounts onto the toilet paper dispenser and is dispensed from a roll, like toilet paper. I have not converted to this style, as it looks a bit ridiculous in a personal bathroom, in my opinion. It's too big for a modest little t.p. roll holder, as it is the size of two rolls stacked vertically, and I believe it is all covered in white or off-white plastic to keep the roll of wipes from drying out. I would not mind, however, finding Cottonelle Fresh RollWipes in public bathrooms. I have not yet seen a hint of moist wipes of any kind in any public bathrooms. If they started showing up at work, I might not have to be so cautious with carrying my own stash around with me, not to mention the added personal cost of my using wipees all day long.
When I first started buying these, a regular refill pack of 50 wipes was about or under $2. I believe the cost has gone up slightly these days, since I usually don't find the refill pack of 48 now to be under $2. It is still usually under $3, though for the 48-pack, and around $4 for the 84-pack.
