Pros: Handy For All Electrical Work
Recently I rewired our home theater after moving things around and found myself using a utility knife to bare and split Monster cable. As soon as I realized what I was doing, I decided that I should stop what I was immediately, and take a trip to our local hardware store. It was there where my trusty hardware salesman Mr. S. sold me yet another great tool that I know will I will get a great deal of use from, the Klein Wire Stripper/Cutter.
A Closer Look
Measuring just under eight inches the Klein rests very comfortably and snugly in your hand, weighing just under a svelte ? lbs. Clad is radiant yellow with orange cuffs the Klein comes out of its packaging ready to tackle any wire stripping or cutting job you throw at it. 10/2 and 12/2 slots remove outer jackets easily with 10 and 12 AWG (4-2.5mm?) insulation removing capability. In addition you can perform the following tasks:
Cut all size wire with staggered blades for clean cuts
make clean copper wire cuts utilizing the sharp wire cutting blades.
Easy Bending shaping and with pulling with serrated nose
Bend And loop wire with integrated wire bending and looping holes
Shear screws via built in shear holes on the nose
The curved handle is comfortable and helps get the Klein into tight spots. The spring action is sure, not loose and returns the Klein Wire Stripper/Cutters to the open position, though it can jam if you overload the tempered steel jaws. A sliding closure locks the unit for safety when you are through your tasks at hand.
The black jaws are clearly marked in easy to read yellow measurement markings though some users may need glasses to read some of the smaller print. The rubber clad handles are soft and provide more than enough cushion for any job youll perform with the Klein Wire Stripper/Cutter.
I was able to comfortably strip 14 gauge monster cable with little effort, utilizing the sharp cutters on the nose to separate the cable before splitting, which was a great help on the thick Monster insulation. It doesnt require a lot of bearing down on the handle to get the job done and you can perform a number of useful functions with the Klein Wire Stripper/Cutters which is a great help.
This is a tool that should find it's way into many projects, be it light wiring, installing light fixtures, electrical outlets and cable tv installations to more mundane crafts work. Certainly the uses are bounded only by your limits of your imagination. The commercial possibilities abound as this tool is quite capable of professional duty with an electrical contractor.
While I didnt finish the home theater project any faster, I had the satisfaction of knowing I finished the home theater installation making nice clean cuts safely and professionally with a tool that I know will last well into a few home theaters projects to come.
