kbaxter's Full Review: Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 2 Speakers
I had been wanting this Klipsch setup for quite some time and a friend gave them to me for Christmas! Without a doubt, one of the best Christmas gifts I've ever received.
As soon as you unpack these speakers, you can see that they are very well made. They almost look handcrafted (maybe they are?). The sub is not huge, so you can place it just about anywhere and the connecting harness is long enough that you have lots of flexibility. About the only limiting factor is the length of the power cord, which goes into the sub unit.
I was in a hurry to hear these, so instead of connecting them to the PC, I plugged in a portable CD player. Wow, what a great sound. If you wanted a compact home stereo, this would sure be one way to go. I would describe the bass as "tight" -- it just sounds so clear and sharp. The mids are good and the highs are bright. Maybe too bright for some folks, but then your sound card's equalizer can take care of that.
These things pack a total of 200 watts (130W in the sub and 35W each in the satellites). What really blew me away is that you can crank them WAY up and they just don't distort. The amps behind these have some suds.
The right satellite packs the controls. You can turn the sub level up and down, as well as control the overall volume. Typically, I have that at about a third, even at high volume levels (a side note: if you live in an apartment, you can expect visits from your neighbors. These are better suited for a house). The right side also has a headphone jack and a line in, which can come in handy.
These speakers are a real joy when listening to CDs. I listen to a variety of different types of music and they do just about everything well. If you're a gamer, you will not be disappointed. You'll hear things you never knew were part of your software.
I can't say enough good about these things. So I'll stop. But wait. One last recommendation: if you're still not sure, I suggest you find a computer store that has a listening area with the Klipsch and some other models. One listen convinced me. Switch from the lower-powered models to the Klipsch and you'll quickly hear the difference. Even models that have similar power ratings did not sound as sharp and tight to me. Hear for yourself.
Yes, it's a lot to spend on speakers for a computer, but if you can afford it, you'll find it worth the money.
