naphtalia's Full Review: Knowing by Estee Lauder 2.5oz Eau De Perfume Spray...
Some people find all fragrances Estee Lauder to be too strong. Certainly, they are powerful and need to be used with control and discretion. For me, Knowing is one of Estee Lauder's nicest fragrances.
It was introduced in 1988 although I didn't actually discover it until just a couple of years ago. This is not a perfume for young girls; neither is this an old lady perfume. It is a sophisticated and mature scent which reminds me of dressing up and going out for a formal even in Europe. This is a perfume that would work for a night at the opera or some similarly elegant affair.
The fragrance is woody and floral. I'm not a big fan of straight florals, but here the woodiness lends a good balance. The first thing you smell when you spray this on is roses and plums. These fade into jasmine, orange blossom and patchouli. This is not the overwhelming patchouli of days gone by. It is a gentle note of patchouli. The aromas that last the longest in Knowing and are the bass notes to it include a fresh mossy scent, sandalwood and amber.
I admit what first attracted me to Knowing was the bottle. (I had not smelled it before then.) The bottle gives the appearance of being carved from a crystal. Of course, the Estee Lauder folk would tell you that Knowing works well with their matching body lotion and powder. It does, but these are hardly necessary. The perfume has good staying power all on its own.
A half ounce bottle of the perfume costs between $25 and $30. A full ounce is between $42 and $45. If this is your signature scent, you might be interested in a 2.5 ounce bottle for about $60.
Estee Lauder fragrances don't often come on sale, but they can often be purchased "with a gift." It pays to watch the adds at your local Estee Lauder counter. With my last bottle of perfume at Estee Lauder, I got a cosmetic bag which included a lipstick, some powder and a mascara.
I like Knowing and would recommend trying it.
