rrrambler's Full Review: Kodak EASYSHARE 5100 All-In-One Printer
Bought it new December 2007.  Worked until time to replace cartridges then wouldn't work anymore.  Long discussions and tests with the service people led to replacement with another one (free quick shipping turn around).  That one did about the same thing-- wouldn't allow me to replace the cartridges -- wouldn't center them when I opened the top. 
The third free replacement works fine so far (several months).  It does a decent and cheap job.  If Kodak ever gets one of these to work consistently, they would certainly drive a lot of other expensive ink printers out of business!  It appears that in their attempt to wrap their users in the "Kodak Womb" they have many sensors that are supposed to keep everything sort of automatic--but the sensors may be the weak part.  My first two printers failed because sensors were fooled/defective in knowing when the cover was opened or the print head and or cartridges were removed. 
   I totally ignore the Kodak easyshare software.  I get irritated being in the Kodak "do everything for you" world.  I imagine a novice would probably like this feature.
   I always had a backup printer (old epson c60 from Goodwill for $5.00 with $2.00 generic cartridges from ebay)--so could have the patience to play with the Kodak one.   The service representatives were friendly and patient, but obviously were overworked having to answer calls.  I tried to get my money back, but that was not available.   I wonder if I would have taken the 3 year service warranty from Walmart if they would have replaced it instead of making me deal with Kodak.  It cost me $99 originally and I have already earned that back in cheaper cartridges.
 Scanning is fine--except software is a little too friendly in setting the defaults at a high level rather than quickly letting you just set the dpi.
  If you enjoy a challenge--buy a KODAK all in one and you will certainly have it!  I think they must soon have a reliable printer or quit trying. The idea of cheaper ink is certainly appealing.
