william7909's Full Review: Kodak EASYSHARE 5100 All-In-One Printer
This printer has one redeeming quality: the ink cartridges are cheap. Unfortunately, if the printer does not work, you don't have much use for the ink.
I bought this printer from WalMart. My first real problem was with the software, which is big, slow and nearly useless. Kodak won't allow you to just install the drivers for the unit, you have to install all 250mb of crap that comes with it. A download from my computer with install took about 90 minutes, (and I had to do it twice because the first install didn't take).
Then I had problems printing black. I got two good prints then it faded to nothing. Walked through the help at the Kodak website and they determined that I needed a new printhead. Got a new printhead in the mail, put it in with new ink and the software wouldn't recognize the ink. I couldn't print a test page, calibrate, or clean the printhead. I tried online chat and got a good answer..."Call our printer help line".
Called printer help line, spoke to a lady that said, "You shouldn't have called us. What number did you dial? What extension did you enter?" She transferred me to India.
Spoke to "Michael".
"What's your case number?" he asked.
I don't have one.
"You must have a case number if you called and got a new printhead."
I don't have a case number, and I didn't call, I got it through your troubleshooting site.
"What website did you get the printhead from?"
KODAK.COM!
"I can't help you if you don't have a case number."
OPEN A NEW CASE!
He walked me through some 45 minutes of nonsense i.e. everything I had already tried 3 times and determined that I needed a new printer. Can't wait to get my refurbished 5100 in the mail, I hear they're sweet!
