My Ticking Time Bomb: The Kodak Easy Share CX4230 Zoom Digital Camera
by chipperx | Nov 05 '02
Pros: Delicately balanced color photos, simplified picture snapping, one-touch picture downloading, handsome camera body.
Cons: Camera glitches *galore*, dummied-down controls, staggeringly brief battery life, fragile-seeming camera body.

It's highly likely that the unit in question was defective. Especially if it was an "open box buy" at Best Buy. I've had some good luck and lots of bad luck with their open box specials. Just because they say it isn't defective, or that it's discounted merely because it's been opened, that doesn't mean you should take their word for it.

I've bought several open box items that were marked as "complete" and been assured by the sales staff that they work fine, only to find that they either don't work at all or have some other serious defect. In that case, Kodak may not even be responsible for the defect in the unit you had. It's possible that it was dropped or submersed in water or something and then returned.

Having said all of this, I have had two Kodak digital cameras over the past couple of years and both of them eventually died. They did take fairly nice pictures when they worked, though.
