ronikaye's Full Review: Kodak EasyShare M1093 IS Digital Camera
I asked for a digital camera for Christmas, 2008. I have burned through two Kodak C- series (low end) Easy Share cameras. With three children, several animals, and living in Niagara Falls Canada, I take pictures quite regularly. I decided it was time to upgrade to a better camera. My C-series cameras still function, and the kids are allowed to use them as they are reliable knock around cameras.
My husband shopped around and finally decided on the M1033 model Kodak digital camera. He was drawn to the color (he bought me the dark grey one). He also liked that it has a larger preview screen, and it is a 10 megapixel HD camera, with a 3 x optical zoom lense.
I was very excited to receive the camera, on Christmas eve so I would be able to use it on Christmas morning. The camera is very easy to use, and takes beautiful pictures. I used it for almost a week, when the button that you depress to take pictures seemed to stop working. It was like it was stuck, but I had not gotten anything on the camera or used it with dirty or sticky fingers. I was very careful with the camera. I loaded the camera up and took it back to the retailer where it was purchased. We were able to get another one with only minor issues with the store manager who insisted I had to send it back to Kodak to be replaced. He finally relented.
The new one worked beautifully, I was so pleased. There was not much going on in January, so the camera sat in its box for about five weeks. When I got it out for my son's birthday in February, it worked beautifully, for a few pictures, then the optical zoom lense retracted on its own, and the camera shut down. I turned it back on and tried to take pictures, and the optical zoom lense retracted on its own, and the camera shut down. When I tried to turn the camera on again, the optical lense would not come out, and the camera shut down. I took a small screw driver from my glasses repair kit and tried to gently assist the optical lense to come out, but it would not.
I thought maybe the battery was bad, so I went to the store and bought a new battery. Same problem, the lense would not come out, and the camera will not stay on. I contacted Kodak, the camera is not even a year old (it was released in the Spring of 2008) so it is covered under warranty, but I had to prove when I bought it. In all of the hoopla with the retailer (Wal-mart!) the receipt was lost. I was told that they would charge me to repair the camera, and I had to pay to ship it to them.
I am very disappointed with the lack of quality in this camera- from a camera company that typically makes the best cameras. I have had two lemons on this particular model, and a bad experience with customer service, henceforth I will not be buying another Kodak product.
This camera is very pretty, and is a 10 mpx HD camera with video capabilities, for under two hundred dollars! When working it took beaufitul pictures. Unfortunately, it did not work, and after having two of the same model turn out to be duds, I am confident to say this camera is not a wise choice.
