| harmonysweetpe's Full Review: Kodak EasyShare Z710 Digital Camera |
I have always had a preference towards Kodak cameras. When I first purchases a digital camera, I was attracted to the ease of us of the Kodak brand. That was some years ago now and in that time I am now up to my third Kodak digital camera, with my constant need to upgrade. The main reason I stuck with this brand is because I own a lot of the accessories that go with it, such as a printer dock and charging station.
The Kodak Z710 is again fairly simple to use. It has easy to choose settings, simple features and a whole lot of zoom. The automatic features work well. I find that auto often works better than choosing a specific setting.
There are several different photo options for this camera, with some including beach, snow, fireworks, night, portrait, landscape, and flower. There are even some really unusual settings that you would not expect to ever use, but when faced with a situation you suddenly realise that yes, they do come in use afterall. Such as beach mode on a recent holiday, or party mode at social gatherings. However, my personal favourite is Flower mode. I love the detail this camera takes of small items like flowers, and even my pet bird. The clarity is so good and the photos turn out great.
However, I do have complaints with this camera with certain lighting. For example, in those in between stages between day and night, it is difficult to find a setting that takes clear photos. Instead they either end up a bit too dark or completely over exposed if you try the night mode. Also, the night landscape mode is not particuarly useful. Unless you are up close to what you wish to photograph, you end up with just a black nothingness. And if there is any light, it will over expose drastically.
However, for normal daylight situations, indoors and outdoors, the camera works great.
The 10x optical zoom allows you to get a lot closer than before. However, once you go beyond the optical and enter digital zoom mode, the quality of you photos are drastically reduced. However, you rarely need to zoom even close to this amount.
The great thing about this camera is that it also allows you to experiment with manual camera settings so that you can choose your own settings in different situations. Personally I have not yet tried the manual settings as it requires a fair bit of reading for beginners to manual, but having the ability to do so makes this camera good value.
The video mode on the Kodak cameras has always been of high quality. You can only zoom prior to pressing record but the picture quality and even the sound is great for a normal camera and often competes with my actual video camera for quality.
Overall, the Kodak Z710 easyshare digital camera is highly recommended. While it does have certain aspects that could be approved, it is likely that all brands have their weaknesses and you will probably find these same problems quite commonly with most digital cameras.
