My family and I bought the Kodak Easy share hoping it was a good buy. At the store, it seemed like a good digital camera, and we were rather excited since we had been looking for a high quality camera to take up to our upcoming camping trip. Now, we had not done our research on this, and unfortunately the guy at the store had been persuading us to buy it, which I’m assuming was just to make a sale. We tested it out in the store, and were satisfied with the quality of the portraits we took.

Now, let me just say, if you are looking for a camera that will capture high quality photos of landscapes, fireworks, or anything at all that has odd lighting and requires the aperture and shutter speed to be adjusted, you are better off looking somewhere else. This camera seems to be specifically just for a quick picture with a friend or relative, and that’s about it. Like mentioned before, this camera will NOT let you adjust anything, except the zoom and whether or not to have flash on (as do most cameras.) Instead, it has fixed settings for different lighting settings such as: beach, snow, High ISO and stage. But honestly, there isn’t much of a difference between most of those.
Aot of the times, the photographs will not even turn out as they appear on the screen. For me, I seem to be in a constant battle with the flash because if I like the lighting a certain setting has, it will show up nicely on the screen. However, if flash is enabled, it completely ruins the photograph. With the flash disabled, you will be deceived by what shows up on the screen because once the picture is taken the photograph will come out extremely dark and impossible to make anything out, and if that doesn’t happen, the color is completely distorted. Again, there is not much you can do about this other than try to adjust the lighting of your subject or just give up since you cannot adjust aperture or shutter speed.
Now, I know this camera may seem like garbage after reading this, but does have its ups. I did manage to get a few decent photos of my paintings I wanted to upload to my computer, although running throughout the house trying to find a good lighting was a bit of a pain. And a lot of the times I found myself deleting most of the pictures because of the quality that showed up on the screen. This was a bit of a “D’OH” moment. The quality that shows up on the camera is never the same as what it actually is! A bit frustrating, but it really gives you a moment of optimism when taking photos, as the thought “maybe this photo will be worth keeping” runs through your head.
All in all, this camera is decent. It is NOT for one who takes photography seriously. Not a very easy camera to work with, but not the worst. Again, if you just want a camera that will capture GOOD (not excellent) quality pictures, and you don’t mind fussing to get exactly the lighting or color, this should do the trick.
