xerjester's Full Review: Dynasty Warriors 2 for PlayStation 2
Ever wanted to play a game soley on chopping people with very large knives and spears over and over again? Well if you want to this game is for you. It's based on Feudal Japan when fighting and chivalry were everything. You have a VAST aray of charcters and each person's abilities are very individualized. Once you picked your character you are shown a rather neat FMV of.... well I won't tell you. You need to rent or buy it to see. When I bought this game I was expecting alot of cool things, when I actually got it, however, I was somewhat dissapointed and delighted...
Like I said before, this game revolves around meaningless hacking and fighting, if your one to enjoy endless fights on huge maps then you will like this, however if you are one that enjoys character developement and a good story to a game, then steer away from this.
Each level is huge, and with that huge terrain comes ALOT of enemies. You have basic enemies, gatekeepers, generals, and the boss of each level (or in my words "the moron that decided to mess with japan".) The graphics are great. This was an early release on the PS2 but the graphics are surprisingly good compared to other early PS2 games. Each level has a small intro of what is happening and at the beginning of the game there is a pretty cool movie. Also when fighting you can trigger a simple movie of armies running in our the appearince of the gruff general signaling to you. I'd give the graphics a 4 out of 5, nothing special but they are good.
Sound is ok, like I've said in my other game reviews, gamers usually don't buy a game because of sound. The voice overs are good even though it looks goofy watching the mouthes move after the english dialogue is over. The effects of swords clashing and foot stomps are good, I won't go indepht with them or the voices because noone really cares that much about sound. Same with music, but, I can tell you it fits the mood perfectly.
Controls are GREAT! They're so easy to use, I mastered them in minutes, there's kick, turbo, and punch/sword slash. You will get the hang of it.
I reccomend you rent this game and don't buy it. If you bring it back to the rental place before you finish it just think of the other levels but wioth more enemies... :P
This is a new type of action game that allows you to relive first hand the experiences that made these men and women the Warriors of the Three Kingdom...More at eBay
