| wifeofvolsfan's Full Review: Kohl's Credit Card |
Kohls is one of my favorite stores. I remember when they first opened here in Nashville, TN. It has become my one stop shopping for every occasion. I buy birthday and Christmas gifts there. I buy clothes for my entire family there, which includes my husband, my two boys and myself. I am always to find a nice variety of items there. They also have household items such as sheets, towels, kitchen items, frames, and decorations. I can also find toys, purses, costume jewelry, fine jewelry, perfume, bath products and shoes. I do nearly all of my Christmas shopping at the store.
When they first opened they had people set up at tables taking applications and processing them in the store. They were able to instantly approve me and gave me a temporary card to use that day. When you make your first purchase with your Kohls card you are given 10% off of the order including items that are already reduced or on sale.
Kohls has two types of cards. They have the regular card and the MVC card. With the regular card you are entitled to ten special savings events per year with an additional 10%-30% off of your order. You will qualify for the MVC card if you spend $600 or more annually. It runs from February-January. You are entitled to pick 4 times per year when you can have a personal sale day. Plus you get other savings through the year. There are sixteen savings opportunities per year. You also get a quarterly newsletter with fashion tips and lifestyle info.
Where can you apply?
You can get an application from any store. You can also print one from their website and take it to a local store. You can also call (866) 887-8884.

The Monthly Bill:
The bill is easy to read. In the top right corner it has the previous balance, total charges, total payments, total credits, finance charge, amount to pay to avoid finance charge, minimum due, amount past due and total payment that is due now. It includes your due date. There is also a detailed listing of the charges that have been made since your last statement. It will even tell you the departments from which you bought items. Across the bottom is listed your credit limit, available credit, account type, finance charge summary, average daily balance and your finance charge. The bottom area is a payment coupon that you tear off to mail in with your payment. On the back is a list of terms and conditions in case you need information regarding your account. It tells you what to do about errors or questions on your bill as well as how to figure the finance charge.
My Thoughts:
I have a MVC card from spending at least $600 per year with Kohl's. That is a status that I never thought I would reach. That really sounds like a lot of money. When you think about it though it isnt that much when you have kids. Each year I have to buy them a set of summer clothes and winter clothes. Anyone with kids knows how fast they grow. When my oldest starts school I always buy his school shoes here. Then if there are times that my husband and I need clothing I purchase them here as well. They carry my favorite brand of jeans, which is Levis.
They always send the bill in plenty of time before the payment is due. They state that if you make the payment after the due date you may be charged a late fee. I normally always pay my bills on time. A couple of months ago I misplaced my bill and totally forgot all about it. That isnt like me. When I realized what I had done I panicked. The thought of having a late fee of up to $30 had me tore up. I can stand wasting money especially when it is because I have done something really stupid. When I got my next bill I was relieved to see that I was not charged a late fee. There was a friendly reminder on the bill that said they did not get my payment and to please pay the minimum due. I usually pay my bill off in full because I dont like to pay interest. One other thing I like about this charge card is that they give you an amount you can pay to avoid a finance charge. On a balance of $543 they stated if I paid $181 of that I would not be charged a late fee. I dont know of any other charge card that offers that feature.
I also like the fact that there is no annual fee. Periodically, they send a small catalog with a savings sticker on the front. You peel the sticker off to find out your savings, which is 10%-30%. Normally, mine is in the 15%-20% range. They also periodically send coupons in the mail with a % savings amount. I love that you can use the savings on any item in the store. It can be on reduced items or sale items. Sometimes you can get some really great bargains!
What I dont like is you can not check your balance online or pay your bill online. You can call the customer service number to get information regarding your account. I would rather look up information on the internet though as opposed to calling.
Overall, I have to say that I am a very happy Kohls customer. I think their prices are good and the items are high quality. They have a nice variety of things. I love the savings that I get by having a Kohls Charge Card.
