Back a few years ago we had our first grand child living in the house with us for a while. When she left our home she also left this high chair. We had it in our basement and we now have another grand daughter. She comes over to visit and grandma and grandpa babysit from time to time.
We are getting a lot of use out of this high chair!
SIZE
This is a huge high chair. It has an extra large tray that keeps the messes in check, on the tray, and not the floor. The lip in front is over 1" high. It would take the bursting of a dam to get liquids over it.
It also has a very wide base 24'x24'. My dining room chairs aren't that wide. This happens to be good and bad for us. It makes the chair extremely stable. That is good for baby. It makes the chair extremely large to carry up and down from our basement every week or so. That is bad for pops. It is too large a high chair for us to keep in our living space all the time.
ADJUSTABLE
The seat adjusts up and down for different feeding heights and table heights. We sometimes feed baby standing up. That is us standing, not the baby. The higher setting brings baby closer to us. This is especially true at cleaning time. We don't have to bend over to wash baby's face and hands. It also brings the seat area closer to us for cleaning after baby is out of the chair.
When we are sitting down we like the lower setting because we don't have to reach up to bring the spoon to our grand daughters mouth.
To change the setting you must be able to reach around, from the back ,to the latches on both sides at one time. I put my foot on the base of the chair to stable it and click it firmly into the position I want. The adjustment have a range of top of the tray 26 1/2"- 29 1/2".
The tray has four positions. The furthest one out is probably not needed for feeding but it is a position that can be used for taking the younger baby in and out of the chair without taking the tray off completely.
To move the tray in and out or off there is a squeeze front piece under the tray. If you press it together in the middle the tray will change positions. It will not work with just a squeeze on either side. The positions are firmly in place with the sound of a good click.
Another adjustment on the high chair is a three choice reclining position. This is particularly helpful with very young children that cannot support themselves properly just yet.
SAFETY
I already mentioned it is a very stable unit. The three point harness is good too. It clicks into place firmly. If you don't feel that click, then it's not on correctly. It also separates easily for grandma and grandpa. A squeeze and it's open.
There is a T-bar that is built into the bottom of the tray. There is NO WAY the baby could slide out of the seat no matter what position it is in. I did a double and triple check after I had read a report that baby could slide out when the tray is in the most open position. It just can't happen on this unit I am reviewing. Safety is important to pops when it comes to his grand daughters.
CLEANING
The whole unit cleans well. The the tray and all the molded sections. The seat padding also comes apart for better cleaning. You need a Philips screw driver to take the back pad off. The bottom pad slides around and loops can come apart for cleaning. The straps can also be removed for cleaning. They do hold dirt and look pretty sad fairly quickly. You must take the clips off the straps and slide the straps out the back. I could not get the straps to come out toward the front. They are designed to go one way only.
I don't particularly like the vinyl padding. It's cheap to the feel and must be uncomfortable on baby's legs in the summer. It does clean well.
Until next time, grand pops will keep a sharp eye out for baby items to review. All in all I think this is a pretty good high chair and it's been doing well by all of us.
