We adopted our dog, Sugar, from a kill shelter. She was about six months old when we adopted her. She is a collie/beagle mix and boy does she love to chew. She was destroying all of her toys. I was talking to her vet and he recommended the Kong line of toys. We bought her a few of the Kong toys and loved them. We came across the Kong Tug Toy at Petsmart. Sugar loves to play tug, so my son insisted that we purchase this for her.
Since I love the Kong line of toys, we purchased it, even though I thought $14.99 for a tug toy was a bit expensive. But we have been through so many other toys that I figured, if it lasted, it was worth it.
The Kong Tug Toy claims to have super-strong rubber grips and durable nylon rings. It is made of control-flex technology that prevents snap-back. The nylon rings are red and the rubber grips are black. The toy measures 16 x 5 x 1 inches. They say it is suitable for all sizes and breeds of dogs.
The Kong Tug Toy is shaped similar to an eight. The rubber grips are on both ends, one end for you and one for your dog. It also has the rubber gripping in the middle. The rest of the toy is made of the red nylon ring.
Our findings were a bit different from what the company claimed about the Kong Tug Toy. Sugar loved her new toy as she loves to play tug a war. She was all excited when we got it out of the bag and tore it away from the packaging. She knew what the toy was for. As soon as she was given her new toy, she wanted to play.
Sugar loved her new toy but to our dismay we did not have the Kong Tug Toy for more than three weeks before it broke. Sugar was able to chew right through the red nylon. We also thought the rubber grips were a bit flimsy and obviously, the red nylon was easy for my dog to chew and break. We have found most Kong Toys to very durable but not this one. It is poorly designed.
I also found the toy uncomfortable to play with. The grip is very thin and hard which hurts my hands when playing. I can only play tug for a short time before it starts cramping my fingers.
Unfortunately the Kong Tug Toy did not last at our house. Our dog enjoyed playing with it for the short time that it lasted but it was not worth the money I paid for it. I wish there was something nice I could say about the Kong Tug Toy but I would not recommend this toy.
