| patriciak's Full Review: Kooky Kat Catnip Stalkless Mulch 1 oz. size |
Kooky Kat Catnip Company is one I've found to carry some of the best catnip I've ever purchased for my cats, or carried in my store. In my review I am going to share my criteria for what makes an outstanding catnip, as well as what is so special about Kooky Kat Catnip Stalkess Mulch - 1 oz. size.
Isn't All Catnip Alike?
Nope! Some catnip is made using the stalk as well as the leaves of the plant, all ground up coarsely. Better quality catnips will use the flowers (buds) of the plant as well as the leaves, and the best catnips will use just the leaves and flowers, and none of the stems. Then the variations you will encounter depend upon the quality of the catnip itself, how it was grown, processed, how long it was stored prior to purchase. While catnip can't totally go stale (they respond to the tiniest per centage of the active ingredient in catnip), there is a world of difference between fresh and catnip stored in a warehouse and then a store shelf for a long time.
Why Kooky Kat Catnip?
Kooky Kat Catnip Company produces mainly organic catnip products, carefully processed without additives, and they pack their products upon retailer order.
What the heck is Stalkless Mulch?
One clue is that yes, this contains no stalk pieces. No bits that look like straw interspersed in with fragrant, green catnip. The "Mulch" refers to the grind of this catnip..it is not coarse, but fine and the texture of this catnip reminds me of finely ground pepper. I prefer this softer catnip for my older cats, it is easier for them to snuffle up or ingest (while adding catnip to your cat's food is not encouraged by James Black of Kooky Kat Catnip Company, as it can affect their appetite, I will at the same time, use catnip to get my kidney failure kitty TO eat...so just use prudently). Having no stalks also means your Kooky Kat Catnip Stalkless Mulch contains more delicious (so my cats tell me), delectable, catnip.
Final Comments
All my cats are catnip responders (it's in their genes...really!) and have tried many, many catnips in the course of their lives; Kooky Kat Catnip Company is their favorite, and they all greatly enjoy the fine grind of the Stalkess Mulch. Sold in 1 oz. and 2 oz. net weight zip lock bags, with the distinctive Kooky Kat yellow label with a stalk of catnip budz, and their logo kitty looking silly, this review has been on the 1 oz. size. Purchase size decisions will depend on how many kitties you are treating, as well as if you have the space in your refrigerator, or an appropriate container to block light (catnip's active ingredient degrades with uv rays) in which to store your catnip. I, and all my cats, give this product 4 Paws Up!
