akuhn's Full Review: Koss UR-20 Consumer Headphones
I've had the Koss UR-20 headphones for approximately 7 months. My initial impressions of the headphones was very positive, but I've found some things I don't like.
The Good
--------
These headphones sound very good for consumer-level grade headphones. The bass is nice and deep on these headphones. High frequencies are produced effectively, snare hits and the like are very sharp. The mid-range is a little murky, but is acceptable. Audio quality overall is superb for the price.
The earpads are made out a faux-leather and are very soft and comfortable. The one problem is these headphones get very hot during the summertime when you start sweating.
The Bad
-------
These headphones are really, really big! You look like you're wearing extra-large earmuffs when you have them on. They're way too big to carry around with you. Due to the width of the earphones, it makes it difficult to lean against the back of a chair when wearing because they get pushed off your head.
My major complaint is the headband on the headphones. The headband itself is very comfortable, but adjusting it is very hard. The headband adjusts on a sliding-track system. Finding your correct headband measurement is easy, but the "sliding-track" does not lock into place. I often find the headband becoming too large because I accidently bump the track out of place.
Overall, for $30 these headphones are a steal. Be careful with the headband or you will knock it out of place on your head.
UPDATE 4/14/2004:
I've lived with these headphones for about three years now. Everything I wrote above pretty much still applies. These headphones have found a place in my house as my PC-Gaming headphones. I tend to get listening fatigue while listening to music on them and my ears hurt. For gaming and DVD watching these are perfect. For music you may want to look elsewhere.
