Pros:Easy to make, inexpensive.
Cons:The taste - it's bad.
The Bottom Line: A meal that's easy to make, and doesn't cost a fortune can still taste good. Too bad this one doesn't.
I love macaroni products. Especially ones that are inexpensive, simple to make, taste great, and don't completely sabotage my diet. Lately I've been trying various flavors in the Easy Mac Cups line. These are single-serving products that come in their own cup. You simply add water, microwave, stir in the cheese powder, and wait a couple minutes for the sauce to thicken. The whole thing takes less than five minutes!
Some of the flavors have been really good; others have disappointed. Today's lunch is their Triple Cheese flavor.
When I bought this product, I assumed that the phrase "triple cheese" actually meant something. I assumed there would be three kinds of cheese in this product. Sadly, I find no evidence of this in the ingredients list. In fact, there's nothing specific to indicate any type of cheese, and certainly not three different types! Looking at the ingredients of the cheese powder, there is absolutely nothing more specific than "cheese culture" listed. This is disappointing to me. I was expecting to see Romano, Parmesan, and maybe Cheddar listed - but such is not the case. In fact, I now suspect that "triple cheese" actually has no meaning at all.
It certainly doesn't mean "triple the amount of cheese" or "triple the amount of flavor". Because this product is pretty bland. As mac & cheese goes, this one falls into the "just barely acceptable" range. In fact, I added salt and pepper to my meal just to see if that would help. It did, but not enough. This product is a definite disappointment, when it comes to flavor.
As far as nutrition goes, the serving is approximately a cup, and contains 220 calories, 4.5g of fat, 660mg of sodium, and less than 1g of fiber. So, the only thing it has going for it is the relatively low fat grams. Everything else is a miss. Especially the high sodium considering I had to add salt just to make this product tasty.
In case you can't guess, I don't recommend this product. There are plenty of mac & cheese products out there, you can easily skip this one. The Mac Cups line is nice because it's convenient and inexpensive (about $1), but I won't be buying this specific flavor again.
