Kraft Thousand Island salad dressing makes the dressing line-up on the refrigerator door in a hit-and-miss kind of way at our house. Good, but not great, and others offer a little more in the way of flavor and consistency, but we'll keep it from time to time.
But it's not always top-shelf.
Thousand Island Aficionados Might Look the Other Way
Don't misunderstand me, Kraft Thousand Island dressing is good but it's not the best, with a world of Thousand Islands to choose from these days.
Everyone makes it, to my knowledge, as often as you'll find ranch, Italian or French in a product line, you'll find Thousand Island right up there in the running.
As I find with ranch dressings more and more, the Thousand Island Development Council (fictitious) has embarked on remaking Thousand Island, with the addition of bacon to the dressing, in effort to cash in on the bacon craze. I haven't seen any other new offerings in the Thousand Island territory, but don't be surprised if they reach out and grab some more ideas from the ranch people. Kraft has begun on this trek and may have pioneered it -- I missed the memo on that, so I can't be sure.
At any rate, Kraft Thousand Island doesn't kick other Thousand Island makes off the shelves, at least in my experience. We prefer Ken's Steakhouse variety, and once in a while dabble in Marzetti's. Kraft's make of this dressing falls into the shopping cart once in a while if I find it for a really good price or if the store has no Ken's in range of my eyesight.
Good, but not great.
Just about the Same on the Back Panel
The ingredients of mellow, slightly tangy Kraft Thousand Island appear similar to that of other Thousand Island dressings on the store shelf, but concentration of flavor makes the difference. Clearly, they're not providing measurements of the chili sauce content, nor of the garlic, or onion or relish. The amounts of these parts of the whole make the difference, and with them, we'd all be concocting close-enough versions of our own dressings rather than purchasing them pre-made. So, no measurements, just an idea of the contents by volume in the whole.
With carbs at 4 per 2 Tbsp. serving, calories at 130 and fat at 11 grams, you won't find a lot of difference between brands. Perhaps the cholesterol will get you in others -- Kraft protects you from the added cholesterol in this dressing with a count of 0. That's zero.
What You Like May Not Be What We Like
When you see Kraft Thousand Island on the shelf you might very well decide to pick it up and give it a try. We did, and we will use it and even enjoy it to a degree, though, as mentioned previously, we enjoy other brands much more. This one will do the job, if in a more lack-luster way than the others, but my opinion covers only my taste buds. Let yours be the judge.
