Pros:Affordable, swim while it cleans, works great
Cons:Does not climb to clean shallow-end pool stairs
The Bottom Line: I highly recommend the Kreepy Krauly Kreepy Kadet for affordable automatic pool cleaning while you swim.
We bought the Kreepy Krauly Kreepy Kadet automatic pool cleaner to relieve us of the burden of vacuuming the pool manually. Most of the other brands of pool cleaners were not only higher in price, but did not allow you to swim in the pool as it cleaned.
The Kreepy Krauly Kreepy Kadet is easy to install and uses your pool's existing filtration system to vacuum away dirt, small leaves, bugs, and other small debris.
Out of the Box Assembly Steps
1) Attach the seal to the main body
2) Attach the skirt
3) Attach the guide wheel
4) Attach the bumper strap
5) Attach the dive float
6) Assemble the 32 foot hose and attach the hose weight
You have just completed assembling the Kreepy Krauly Kreepy Kadet vacuum.
Installation in Pool
The Kreepy Krauly Kreepy Kadet comes with an automatic regulator skimming valve to regulate water flow to assure proper speed of cleaning.
1) Turn pool pump off.
2) Close the main drain and all suction lines except the line from the skimmer to which your cleaner will be connected.
3) Remove the skimmer basket
4) Screw the threaded compression adapter into the vacuum connection in the bottom of the skimmer.
5) Press the automatic regulator valve into the threaded compression adapter.
6) Place the Kreepy Kadet into the pool and allow it to sink to the bottom.
7) Insert the hose through the skimmer opening and push it onto the automatic regulator valve.
8) Turn the pool pump on.
You have just finished installation of the Kreepy Kadet into your pool. Your Kreepy Kadet should start moving after a couple of minutes when the air leaves the system. It then should start cleaning at a rate of 8-12 feet per minute.
The Parts
The pad is made of soft polyurethane which is completely flexible. It works with all pool surfaces, which include: gunite, vinyl, fiberglass, and tile.
The vacuum hose is translucent and almost disappears in your pool.
Swimming With It
We keep our Kreepy Krauly Kreepy Kadet running at all times in the pool. Since it does not have any electrical cords, it is harmless to swim with and does not get in our way. You can also unplug the unit and pull it to one side if you should find that the hose gets in your way while swimming. We even keep ours running during the winter to keep the pool clean and the water moving so the pool does not freeze.
Cleaning Ability
The Kreepy Krauly Kreepy Kadet thoroughly cleans the bottom and the sides of your pool. It continuously moves in a random pattern. It vacuums dirt, bugs, small pebbles, and leaves. The only item we have found that it does not pick up is a larger size pine or fir cone.
It does not climb our shallow-end pool steps therefore we sweep the debris off onto the bottom of the pool for it to vacuum.
Where the Debris Goes
The Kreepy Krauly Kreepy Kadet sends the debris to your skimmer and/or pump basket for you to later dump out.
Problems We Have Encountered
Kreepy stops moving: Check for debris in the filter or pump basket. Pull up the Kreepy Kadet to check for a clogged item in the flapper. Filter may need to be backwashed.
Kreepy gets stuck in the shallow end of your pool by your stairs: Install the step deflector that is provided with your Kreepy Kadet.
Kreepy keeps going in a repetitive pattern: Check the swivel on top of the cleaner to ensure it turns freely. Check the position of the dive float. Check the hose to ensure it has not become bent or kinked. Take the unit out of the pool and lay the hose straight on the ground. Do not ever coil the hose because it will retain the coil shape.
Note: Anytime you lift your Kreepy Kadet out of the water and place it back in, it will take a few minutes to release the air bubbles out of the line before it starts again.
Maintenance
The Kreepy Krauly Kreepy Kadet is virtually maintenance free. You just need to inspect the flapper, footpad and guide wheel for excess wear.
Warranty
The warranty is for one year parts and labor.
