| wangarific's Full Review: Krups 239 Power X Plus 14-Speed Blender |
As a college student, a blender is one of the necessities of life. Sure it isn't as necessary as a fridge or a microwave, but second to the fridge, the blender will make you one of the most popular people on your floor. Why? You have the power to make all sorts of fancy mixed drinks like Margaritas, which everyone enjoys. The fridge is for the beer, the blender is for the margaritas baby.
Simplicity is the name of the game...
Fourteen speed settings on a dial make it really easy to adjust and there are only four buttons: Power Burst, On, Off, Crush Ice. They do exactly what they say... press power burst to run the blender; it shuts off when you release it. On and off, well, they turn it on and off. Crush Ice does exactly that, and quite well I must add. Nothing to confuse, nothing to annoy you. No need to decide if mix is faster than frappe. Just numbers.
Cleaning...
The top and the pitcher are easy to clean, dishwasher safe. The one thing I did notice is that if you spill something sticky, it will get into the grooves of the dial and buttons which will also make them stick. I'm not quite sure what it will take to clean it but I can force the dial and buttons to do what I want without much more additional effort.
Durability...
The pitcher is made of glass but don't test it by dropping it. I have bumped it into tables, lightly though, so it's durable enough for my needs.
Ice Breaker (an Update!)
If you have singular ice cubes, it'll tear them up in a heartbeat. If you have a huge ice cube (the one I put in was about five inches long and at its thickest point about two inches) it will probably take a little longer time because it can only hit the bottom part of the ice. Since it'll kick it up and ice floats, it has to sink before it is hit again. I am pretty sure this will happen to any type of blender but it had a very very tough time in this one.
I bought it used for $5, you can't beat that price for the quality of blender I received. And it's pretty with that nice clean white finish and the glass pitcher, it's a winner!
