| auntnono's Full Review: Krups 239 Power X Plus 14-Speed Blender |
Margaritas!!! Strawberry Margaritas!!! My neighbor got me hooked on these as a favorite summertime evening drink. There was only one problem.
I did not own a blender. I had never owned a blender. None of my closest friends or relatives owned a blender. (I also did not have epinions to refer to at the time!). I spent one whole weekend checking out department stores. I read all the boxes of all the blenders. That was the only resource I could think of. (Not one store was willing to let me make a test margarita!) That was also not a very satisfactory method of choosing a blender. I was more confused than ever.
I finally asked a bartender at a local Mexican restaurant what make of blender he used. There was no hesitation on his part. He wholeheartedly endorsed the Krups Power X Plus.
About the Blender
This Krups blender has 14 speeds, a power burst button and an ice crusher button. And although the motor is a powerful 330 watts, the blender is not that noisy. The anti-slip rubber feet on the base keep it in place even at highest speeds. There is also a place for cord storage.
The jar is heavy glass with raised measuring marks in both ounces and liters, with a total capacity of 48 oz. The easy pour lip keeps spills to a minimum. The plastic lid fits snugly and has a removable center that can be used to measure up to 2 oz. of ingredients. The base unscrews for easy cleaning and removal of blade assembly. NOTE: When re-assembling do not forget the rubber gasket!
I have had no problems with this blender so was quite surprised to find out the following:
The Consumer Product Safety Commission and Krups issued a recall on models 238 Power X and 239 Power X Plus!
It seems the very feature that made this blender so popular, the ice crusher button, can weaken the blade assembly causing the blades to break off. The recall was issued for models sold September 1993 to November 1994. Although I bought my blender later than that, I had no way of knowing how long it had sat in the store’s inventory. I made a call to Krups customer service (1-800-526-5377) and to be safe they are sending me a new blade assembly for my blender. The service representative I spoke with was very courteous and the whole call took less than 5 minutes. I should have the new assembly within 2 weeks. I urge anyone who has one these models to call Krups.
Even with this recall, I still recommend this blender as one of the best in its price range.
UPDATE
2/28/00-Received new blade assembly today. 6 days from when I made my call. That's what I call great customer service!
