| kembry's Full Review: Krups 239 Power X Plus 14-Speed Blender |
If you were wondering what I thought about this blender, let me be up front about it and let you know, I am a real fan of the Krups. I looked at the Waring Professional, the Oster and a Kitchenaid model (all glass carafe blenders) before finally going with the Krups and I couldn't be more happy of my decision. I've got to admit, I was mainly motivated by price. The Waring and Kitchenaid were getting dangerously into three digit territory (one was $99 and the other $98). However, I'm happy to report there are several other great reasons to go with the Krups.
First of all, the Krups uses a dial instead of thousands of buttons and meaningless descriptions (what's the difference between frape and liquefy anyway?) to adjust speed. If you want the blender to go faster, you simply turn the dial more. Simple. I like that.
Also, a really neat feature on this blender is the ability to crush ice WITHOUT a liquid. I was skeptical about this until I tried it. Sure enough, I got a carafe full of shaved ice without any liquid at all.
In the great "glass versus plastic" debate, the Krups Power X Plus definitely sides on the glass side. Obviously, there are lots of reasons to go with a glass carafe for your blender. But this blender seems to take advantage of some of the more important ones. For example, the glass carafe actually separates (unscrews) from the bottom, which is nice if you just want to clean the glass or if you need to get to the blade (to change it, for instance). Also, the entire blender just seems more solid--something I've never felt about plastic blenders.
My only reservation is how the blender seats on the motor. It's not too difficult to have it seated at an unusual angle, but then, it's also not too difficult to change that around.
In the final analysis, this is a great blender at a very reasonable price. If you're looking to blend things, I'd blend with this.
