Pros: Compact design well-suited for under-counter use.
Cons: Terrible tasting coffee with a plastic taste. Not hot enough.
My wife and I have been drinking German Coffee ever since I was stationed there with the US Army. It has a rich, strong coffee flavor that we enjoy.
Up until now, we've always used a Krups thermal carafe coffee maker to make and preserve the flavor of that high-priced grind. A German made coffee maker for German made coffee.
The Krups coffee makers we bought had to have a program timer and a thermal carafe so we could both have a cup in the morning and then we could both take the rest of that coffee to work in our thermos containers. It also had to be capable of brewing a delicious tasting cup of coffee.
We didn't like our coffee piping hot right after the brewing, but we didn't want it to be lukewarm by Sunday afternoon either.
When our last Krups would no longer start at the programmed time, we bought the Krups FMF5-14 Stainless Steel 10-Cup Coffee Maker. We should have read the Epinions reviews.
We ran water through the machine on the first cycle as instructed and then made our first pot of coffee. Absolutely terrible. Not only was it not hot enough, but it tasted like brewed cardboard with a hint of plastic. Sadly, I poured it down the drain, but, just as other Epinions reviewers had written, I had to turn the carafe upside down and shake it to get it all out.
We time-tested the carafe on Sunday, and after only three hours, the coffee was lukewarm.
We made a second pot, then a third, and finally consulted Epinions to shop for a new coffee maker.
We promptly returned the Krups FMF5-14 for a refund.
