Pros: Solid machine makes and maintains very hot coffee and filters your water.
Cons: Narrow water container opening. Hard to see water level indicator. No internal grinder.
We bought this to replace our dying Melita. We loved the fact that the Melita had an internal grinder. Unfortunately the coffee was only warm after we added milk. So when we saw the Krups is 1400 watts we opted for hot coffee over a built-in grinder. And it is HOT. And it stays hot for up to 3 hours, depending on how you program it. You can program it to start at different times for weekdays and weekends which I think is a really nifty feature. We opted for the glass carafe rather than the thermal because we've noticed metal changes the flavor of tea and coffee. With this machine thermal is a waste of money because the coffee is kept hot--very hot--until the machine turns off.
The style is handsome rather than beautiful, the LED lights are very bright, the lid opens wide, a water filter is included, and 2 paper filters come with it. We recommend buying a gold-tone filter so your coffee won't have a papery taste.
Because the interior is black it's difficult to see the water level and despite the wide lid, the water container has a small opening making it difficult to fill.
Shop around. You don't have to pay the exhorbitant sticker price.
