Pros:Washable, no cover required, better for baby
Cons:The leak horribly!!!, bulky, take a long time to dry
The Bottom Line: They leak something fierce. Pee and poop runs out each time the baby goes. Very bulky and hard to dry after washing. Avoid them if possible.
I bought 20 of these before my daughter was born. I had looked at the popular Bumkins but hated the price. So I went with the Kushie's Ultras instead. At first I thought, hey this is great when we used them. The prints did show through her clothes some but I didn't totally mind that. Then the leaks started. Every time she pooped it would literally squirt out of the legs, when she peed her clothes got wet (wicking), and they took over an hour in the dryer. And, forget trying to let the baby sleep in these. You'll end up with a wet, crying baby and you'll have to change all of the bedding and the baby's clothes long before time to get up. And, they are very bulky so clothes don't fit well over them and the baby has what I call bubble butt. I was very disappointed in them. But, I'm on a budget so I used them until she outgrew them. I didn't want to waste all of they money I had invested in them. Needless to say, when she outgrew that size I didn't buy any more of them.
Some info on the diapers: These diapers come in sizes small (6-10 pounds), medium (11-20 pounds), Large (21-30 pounds), and toddler (30+ pounds). They have a vinyl outside covering, Velcro tabs for easy closing, an inside piece of Velcro to allow you to fold over the tab during washing to prevent the diapers from sticking together, and the interior is made of 5 layers of flannel. It has an extra flap soaker that can be stuffed with a pre-fold diaper for extra absorbency if you want and can also be folded (without the pre-fold) for extra absorbency that way. The front has extra wide Velcro (or 2 rows of loopy Velcro on some diapers) so that you can get a tighter fit around the waist when the baby is at the lower weight range. The diapers seem to fit the weight of the baby pretty accurately. When she reached 10 pounds it was time to get new ones. The small ones do run a tad big at first on newborns, especially in the leg area. They can be washed and dried on HOT without any problems. They handle wet pails (putting water in your diaper pail to soak until wash day) just fine. They can be purchased in packs of 5 per pack or individually, they have a reusable carrying case, and come with instructions for care. They also come in either cute prints, solid colors, or in plain white.
